It started as nice snow but within an hour had raindrops mixed in. The snow proceeded to get heavier, as did the mixed in rain and now sleet too, and I ended with between 4 and 5 inches before the flip to all sleet and rain. That lasted 15-20 minutes and then it turned to wind driven rain for a while. By sunrise it was 37-38* and drizzling, by 8 when I got out with the shovel it was downright miserable. Get out there and scrape this down to pavement because when it freezes up it's gonna suck if you haven't.

I was somewhere between 4 and 5 inches when it flipped but it had been mixed sleet for quite some time before the flip and it was raining from the start. This is some of the heaviest crap we've had in years. There's water running under the slush on top of the ice layer so when you push the insulating layer of slush off it instantly turns to a sheet of ice before it starts melting. The plow pile could have sucked but I just pushed it across the street so the plow would push it down the hill. Now at least I got it down to pavement so it can be sanded and made passable after tonights freeze.

I had about 5" of snow before it fully flipped to sleet. That added another .5 or so then rain for hours. This shit is outrageously heavy to shovel, especially the plow bank. Uggh

I have about 5", tough to tell with the wind. It's still heavy snow but now it's also raining and sleeting hard too.

28° with heavy snow mixed with sleet and rain falling sideways. Yuck...

Looks nice, kinda like what January is supposed to look and feel like. I think this .5" gets me over 5" for the season I might go out and shovel everything into one pile to see if it can last through the rain. Maybe if I put it under the truck?

Moderate snow blowing every which way making it look like it's snowing harder than it is. 25° dp 21° with about a half inch down.

@wdrag I've been learning from you for over 20 years and these threads you've been creating here have been an awesome educational boost for me. Thanx and keep it up

Frost quake?

I was just there yesterday and there's barely 2" on the ground.

Bx and Rob talking about old... Yo, Rc, straighten them boyz out would ya So what happens when you put a few inches of wet snow down then add a few inches of rain to it when the ground is frozen? It runs off, right? Anyone living at the bottom of a hill or along a watercourse is about to get washed away. FFG won't show it because it's been so dry it thinks the ground can absorb the new water. The guidance is wrong. It's going to get messy Monday morning.

5° up here on the (windy) hill, 2-3° down below.

I always look through this thread first and then the current events one next. I often don't need to go do my own modelology because a pro or 3 will chime in with the info I need. It's fkn cold out there kids
-
Meh, it's cold enough that the heat is running more than I want it to. That's cold enough

I dunno, it only got to about 16 when I was out and about this afternoon so 20 below avg is pretty significant.

This is another one of those times where a wee bit of elevation makes a difference, my area is entirely above freezing and has been for a little while now. It's been just rain and anything that was shoveled and cleared yesterday is pretty much just wet except in sheltered or northerly aspect areas. We have to go out in a bit and I'm hoping it's like that around the area not just here on the hill.

It's snowing pretty good, couple inches down. I'm going back to sleep.

That was just a weird time all around. A benign winter was probably a good thing.
