On the cars it's 2", other exposed surfaces are similar. Yard and driveway are more like 1.5. Snow seems to be done now. They way it was deposited by the north wind makes it much prettier looking south. Looking north everything is just wet and dark.

The way this plastered everything it's gonna be pretty when the sun comes out. It's also gonna be a big pita to clean if you don't get to it before it freezes.

No doubt! We're going to need another oil delivery in 2 weeks, I'm not looking forward to paying for it.

Solidly below 32 now, everything is plastered and freezing up pretty quickly. I'm over 1" now.

I'm at about a half inch already and it's coming down at a pretty good clip. Temp has been falling since it peaked around 5am @ 39° right before it started to change to snow. It's about to drop below 32 so it's just a matter of time before it gets ugly slick out there.

33/29/NNW3/SN Everything is getting plastered with snow now. It was soggy after 5 hours of rain and now the snow is sticking to every possible surface. It's gonna be all sortsa fun when it freezes up in a little while

I think so. If I'm not mistaken that's when I got my dads Olds wagon stuck right in front of the high school entrance and had to be pushed out. I didn't drive to school again for a month

We haven't had a good ol' 4 Corners Low come bowling across the country in too long. It sure would be nice to see one again.

Down to 33 and snow now, started sticking right away even on the wet driveway.

Still 35 and rain here but radar shows it's snow so I'm guessing it's getting colder upstairs and will push the warmth out soon.

Look here https://www.abebooks.com/book-search/author/JEROME-S-THALER

I don't think I've even hit 6". Maybe but it sure doesn't feel like it. Look up Jerome Thaler. He was from Yorktown and had the most comprehensive stats for the HV going back decades that I've ever seen. I used to buy USGS Topo maps from him because he had a collection better than most museums. I can't imagine he's still alive but maybe... @weathafella knew him too (hey buddy, haha).

What I want is a string of clippers. When's the last time that happened?

Yeah right. All of these bits of energy moving through the cold, something of consequence should pop. I have a feeling that if it does it will be as the cold air is leaving our side of the planet.

The consternation over the models is always entertaining. Look, ya got waves moving through a generally cold environment in January so there's a fair chance for a storm. Even with the players on the field tomorrow we probably won't be able to "see through" the Thursday morning storm until it's in progress so relax, have a beer and some pizza.

Anafrontal Passage Rain/Snow Threat 1/19/2022-1/20/2022
gravitylover replied to HVSnowLover's topic in New York City Metro
If ya don't win big did ya really win? I appreciate the extremes as much (or more so) as the next guy but nickel and dime winters where we get a few inches at a time a few times a week end up with a more wintry appeal and a longer lasting snowpack. -
So that short period of flakeage and the melt/refreeze cycle have made things interesting to say the least. This stuff on the ground won't be going anywhere for a while now.

It looks like we have some snow incoming. I know it was sorta forecasted but I wasn't feeling like wraparound would happen. My kid at school in Brockport said the snow is up to the first floor windows of her townhome.

Whatever film I missed on the driveway is already freezing. Sketchy is the name of the game for a while now.

^ Great. When I was shoveling I'd toss loads of wet stuff to the sides and as the water drained out it ran back into the driveway because the ground is frozen. Driving tonight is going to be scary as water will be running off all the hillsides, ditches are full of snow and leaves, storm drains are too so that water will be in the roads and freezing up nicely I think I'm gonna go get a couple of bags of playground sand at Home Depot...
