  1. I think you're underestimating the weight and density of the cold to the north. IMO this storm doesn't have the oomph to push very far into an expanding cold air mass.
  2. Meh, it covered unpaved surfaces but just barely. Maybe .2" but at least it looks wintry for a day or so. Looking forward to a few more warm days but could do without the r**n. End of the week looks interesting, hope I can get home before it turns icky, I need to be in Buffalo on Thursday.
  3. I was wondering what was happening up there. Post some links to where the pics are. I saw that it was snowing pretty hard this morning at Titus Mt ski area in Malone so I assumed it was locking back up already. It's not?
  4. I hope the wind stays up for a while after this rain and melt is over otherwise the mud is gonna be unbearable for a while. This warm shot broke winters back in a different way that a lot of people won't realize, the ground thawed at least a few inches down. It was nicely frozen and the melted surface even refroze with the weekend cold shot, that won't be the case this time. From here on out any frozen precip that happens will melt out from the bottom as well as the top. Blah...
  5. It's either an emotional one shot wonder boost or a prolonged hassle with associated mud season to follow. If the hassle is feet of snow and a near record late season snowpack I'm in but a couple of 4-6" rapid meltoffs would be a waste.
  6. I just want a short period with an actual snowpack, not just this 2" uselessness. I want one night where I need to be outside shoveling while the storm is doin' its thing around me. Then it should go right to 70° and bike/golf season
  7. Even though I am still below 20" on the season I wouldn't say it has been all bad. January was plenty cold and there has been snow on the ground for more than 30 days straight. There have been many days with snow falling to keep the wintry appeal strong too. Sure I'd rather be at 36"+ but it can't be all about snowfall to the exclusion of other aspects of winter.
  8. The last few radar frames it looks like this is backbuilding on the northwestern side. I'm getting light flurries again and the temp is down 3 to 27°.
  9. @wdrag I saw you mention measuring technique and timing earlier today. Had I waited until it was over I would have had to report just over an inch but since I hit it before compaction, while it was still cold with little sun impact, I had between 2.5 and 5" depending on surface type and exposure. Right at the end there was a burst of tiny grains and crystals that compacted everything and then the sun beat it up right after. This was absolutely better than the minimal amount that "proper" technique would show and I'll count it as 4" in my annual total.
  10. Snowing again but it's completely different snow, needles and mini crystals instead of fatties. It's compressing the earlier snow down and filling in the spaces. Too bad it's gonna rain this week.
  11. Snow has picked back up but now it's needles and small crystals. It is coming down nicely and at 29° with a steady N breeze it will probably accumulate a little more on snow covered areas but I doubt it will on pavement. Very nice event with 5" on fully exposed to the air, hard surfaces in shaded areas, 3-4 in exposed areas and 2.5-3 on the driveway and patio.
  12. It definitely is the second best here. 8 more like this would be great.
  13. 2-2.5 on the driveway and patio, 3 on the cars and up to 4" on shaded and exposed hard surfaces. That's double to 4 times what I expected so a big win here. It's way more fluffy than it has a right to be considering the temps but the flakes are beautifully formed so I guess it's perfect growth conditions up there. What a pleasant surprise. Looks to be fading now though, the cloud deck is thinning and it's getting brighter with fat flakes still falling.
  14. 2-2.5 on the driveway and patio, 3 on the cars and up to 4" on shaded and exposed hard surfaces. That's double to 4 times what I expected so a big win here.
  15. There's easily 2" out there. Seeing as I never expected more than 1" and this is far from over I'm pleasantly surprised. Big, fat, fluffy flakes drifting down is always a nice thing to wake up to. 26/26/N1/SN
  16. Nothing but piles and maybe an inch of spotty garbage on northerly aspects. I didn't look into this one much before but it looks like the western side is further west than I expected.
  17. Yeah, the year I opened my ski shop
  18. Oh boy oh boy oh boy I'm gonna get another inch! Ooooh, 14 inches here we come Is all that rain next week for real? That wind too
  19. So I'm at about 13" so far, I should be around 20 and annual is 48-50. Keep complaining, go on... Winter's over. I'm going to put together some new bikes tomorrow. I might wash the car too.
  20. Major? I would need 3 majors. I could do it with 2 historics or possibly one biblical but that's a stretch.
  21. Even though Snow Ridge is (slowly) passing 100"? It's too bad to see winter taking a dump everywhere already
  22. That struck on this side of the state this week. Hey folks! I haven't been in this forum in way too long but now, again, I need some feet on the ground info. We picked up those Indy Passes and we get 2 days each at Greek, Swain, Snow Ridge and Titus. We'll do an overnight but can't get that far out until Wed-Fri next week so where am I most likely to find (what's left of) the good midwinter snow I'm jonesin' for?
  23. I like your take on it Doorman. While there was never much of consequence with this episode a 10-20% chance of little to nothing sounds just about right. Next...
