  1. Well will ya look at that, this thing has multiple lives. I think we should name it Felix.
  2. .47 for the week, the ground is dry about 1" down depending on soil type and just damp under the trees. I need at least another inch, 3 more would be even better. I'm starting to wonder what the well is gonna be looking like soon...
  3. Useless, that's what it was. The soil is powder dry 2" down in the hanging baskets and about an inch on the ground. I'm glad I didn't put all the effort into the garden like the last few years and also glad that so many of the plants I do have going are native or are at least N American woodland varieties. I just got back from another 800 mile loop through the Adirondacks and North Country then down through the Berkshires and Taconics. It's dry, many creeks are dry or nearly so until you get into the high country and they're still moist from snowmelt and mt rains. The North Country agricultural areas are parched, there were dust storms along the t-storm fronts and then it barely rained when the storms got to where I was. Another observation is the huge areas of mostly standing dead trees (all around upstate). I assume they're mostly ash and pines but it seems like a few other species are very weak and hardly have any leaves. NY is seeing a bunch of different effects of the new climate regime.
  4. The .4 that I've gotten over 2 days has made my plants very happy. I'd sure like to get some more but this looks like it's inching north and there's no round 2 for us.
  5. .25 in the first round. I drove through some crazy heavy showers in northern Dutchess on the Taconic a while ago. Finally cleaned the bugs off my grill and bumper That big bowling ball headed towards us is pretty cool on radar.
  6. .14. Meaningless. The ground is still powdery dry a half inch down and I'm sure the surface will be all powdery duff again by the end of the day. At least it rinsed the dust off some of the flowers and they look nice.
  7. Better but the AQI of ~170 here still sucks.
  8. ^^ I thought so too. There's also less bird activity.
  9. We need one of those too. Which one do you have?
  10. What are the chances that the smoke hinders the heating just enough to keep the storms down?
  11. Oh boy oh boy, .01! What little I did for a garden this year looks funny (sad?) with all of the plants leaves cupped and reaching for more.
  12. It's so weird, it's raining (with thunder and lightning) right now Too bad it won't wash the smoke away.
  13. I drove up to Rochester today and the smoke got progressively worse. Visibility is well under 10 miles where I am now in Seneca Falls. AQI is over 150 and my eyes hurt.
  14. I'm resisting flipping the switch at night but it might be necessary. It was 54 in my living room this morning. That's enough to make a body achy. Here comes the smoke again
  15. Yeah 1 mile west got pummeled and ~1 mile east got almost an inch of rain in the second round. Nada for me
  16. And that's what happened. I didn't even get .01 but the street is wet. Not so much under the trees The lightning and grey sheet is a mile and a half east, down the hill so I can watch it sliding by. Yay
  17. 14 with 42 although I should probably say 18 with 38 so I'm old enough to drink. Showoff
  18. Between the super warm ocean and obviously dry land conditions I'm thinking that eastern Canada is going to have an outsized influence on the east coast pattern the next few months. How would that affect the wind patterns, more days with NE winds than usual? A few around here are down 1-4 feet now with the big one in Westchester still bank full. That won't stay up there for long, New England is pretty dry too. That's hysterical. Not really but...
  19. A severe missed me by 1 mile. Apparently it had 60mph gusts with quarter sized hail. It dark and banging away and windy in the treetops but no biggie. Let's see if this next cell slides by to my east or gets me. It looks to be more intense than the one that missed.
  20. I've been there (and Crescent City) a few times and only seen perfect COC weather. It's actually one of the few regions I'd love to move to when we can (finally) leave NY. I've also been to Seattle a few times and never saw anything other than sunny days.
