  1. We are planning on getting there tomorrow morning when they open so we can get a few hours before it gets busy. We went to Misquamicut in RI last week and the place was packed which made it less than no fun. Tomorrow, Monday, morning will the fog be like that as far west as Robert Moses?
  2. Early morning? Is it better then than at 9-10pm?
  3. So it looks like clear and dry(ish) for this evening, where is it in the sky and what time do I need to be out looking?
  4. Now that you mention it I remember that. You've been ahead of the curve longer than the rest of us One all time record high per decade is ok with me. If it was the same number of record high minimums we've seen imagine what our air conditioning bills would be We'd be looking at something similar to the climate in Dallas.
  5. The high minimum theme continues I think there's (almost) a silver lining to it though, if it was 4-6* above avg for highs we'd be looking at some really hot daytime temps (as opposed to just unpleasant).
  6. KDXR at 81* @ 10.30am. Once that fog burned off this morning it was off to the races. 68 @ 9am so, up 13 in 90 minutes.
  7. I just have to let "the rest of the crew" know that it's not all about dry, humid and hot. It's been below avg high temps here again so far this month. I haven't looked at lows so I don't know where it stands overall. While the precip numbers are well below a lot of areas, like yours, it has been consistently wet without needing to really water the garden more than a couple of times all month.
  8. Since that initial .05 shower early this morning it's only stopped for about 30 minutes. It has been a steady heavy mist ever since adding another .05 and it's just miserable outside right now. Things had just barely dried out after Fay last weekend and now it's thoroughly soaked and soggy again. Amazing how such small amounts can be so impactful sometimes. Looks like another day where it will be a stretch to reach 75, it's 67* now.
  9. That unexpected rain this morning messed me all up. For only being .05" it thoroughly soaked everything back down and I'm not sure I want to go mt biking early like I planned. No wind isn't helping to dry it out.
  10. This is a dense and wet overcast this morning. That burst of rain late yesterday (.15") soaked everything and with the clouds it's staying really cool out with temps locally at 65*.
  11. I'm going to say it's for the sake of consistency. The station had been used for a long time and even though it was moved a few years ago it's still in range of the original site so qualifies for consistency's sake. I do agree with you though that it hasn't been properly representative of the area for quite some time though and should either be moved or disregarded in favor of one that is more appropriate.
  12. Those storms are just barely east of me. It's bangin' and rumblin' pretty good with a solid wall of rain falling and a few lightning flashes but I can't tell if it's c2g or c2c. It's totally backlit by the sun to the west and has a hardcore Matisse thing going, too cool edit: It didn't stay totally dry, I did get 3 minutes of heavy rain, 7 minutes of rain overall, and some wind but it was very obviously a fringe situation.
  13. How is it that so many times a line of rain/storms splits as it gets to me and I stay dry while I can see it raining just east or west of me? Today it's east, black and stormy, lightning, thunder and I can see the wall of rain. A lot of times the last 20 years I'd be the one getting hit but this year is the exact opposite. Just a weird observation but last week proved it out when Brian in Fairfield CT, 30 miles south but just a few miles east got pummeled while I sat here and watched the storm headed his way and stayed dry. edit: It didn't stay totally dry, I did get 3 minutes of heavy rain, 7 minutes of rain overall, and some wind but it was very obviously a fringe situation.
  14. The year started out 'bird strong' but has definitely fizzled. I was out in a forest area today that has historically been a bird wonderland but it was mostly quiet today and I don't know that I heard more than just a couple of cicadas. It's so noticeably quiet it's unnerving, the only regular sound is the mosquitoes buzzing in your face. At one point I thought my daughter was behind me so I stopped to point out how dry a terminally wet area was and it wasn't her behind me it was a coyote. It had been running with me for well over a quarter mile. I started talking before I turned around and when I did it was just sitting there looking at me like a dog, it was so cool! Anyway, so bugs in the garden... Japanese beetles and earwigs are a pain in the butt this year, neither of which has been an issue in the past.
  15. Is that your backyard? Not the worst Coronacation spot Pretty great pic there too Sweet shot dude! Tag me when you're headed somewhere to see it again, I've missed almost all of the great celestial events the last few years.
  16. Damn, 6" more than here ~30 miles north. My wettest period so far was 1.3" in a few hours late Saturday but I was only at ~1.7 before that. October. We are going to get significant snow again in October and early frosts will doom the garden in September. Then it will be 65° t shirt riding weather on Xmas eve again.
  17. Yup, gonna get wet. Bummer, I was hoping to ride in the morning.
  18. Over the last 5 years the difference is noticeable, the last 2 is mind boggling and super scary. At least here the bird variety is still really good but I don't expect that to be the case next year. In fact I think the birds of prey variety and numbers is still increasing as well as ducks, I've seen more ducks this year than I can ever remember around here. Your broad spectrum idea is most likely the culprit which explains my 2 year observation. Since the current administration relaxed the enforcement of marginally sufficient regulation 3 years ago an already bad situation fell off a cliff.
  19. I didn't know that, thanks! I've been trying to add pollinator attracting plants to the yard for a while now. It seems to be working but this year there has been a massive decline in the number of bugs, particularly bees and butterflies. So far it's only been a small problem in my garden because of the attractants but I can drive 300+ miles on the highway and barely have any on the windshield and that's kind of scary.
  20. So are we getting wet tonight or will it wait until after noon tomorrow?
  21. I've never called a report in. Since the turn of the century I've hoped that those that need to know follow the forums and the reports we post are seen and utilized. Is that too optimistic?
  22. Went from a reasonable .4 a little before 7pm to 1.7 by a little after 8pm. The wind was definitely worse than Fay delivered and it brought down some big branches and made another big mess in the garden that negated the hours I spent fixing yesterday's damage.
  23. That last round of storms came through in a rather dramatic fashion and dropped an inch in a pretty short time. The wind was worse than yesterday, the rain was much heavier and w lost some big tree branches in addition to more garden damage. Uggh
  24. Only another .4 so far today but it has been wet all day and now it's boomin' and rumblin' and raining pretty hard. #bringbackthedrought
  25. 1.1 storm total, 1.6 for 7 days. While it has been damp here for over a week it's not really that wet, wet enough for plants to flop over in the garden though
