  1. Work is nuts with COVID-19 preparations but I digress, woke up before dawn to .1" so I'm on the board for March! Winning...
  2. Well its much better now than back in the days of steam locomotives and journal bearing trucks which is where the old "hot box" term comes from but diesels and roller bearings can still cause problems when they malfunction and/or break. I know that when the rail grinder train comes through it has a water tank car with it and they spray water down as it passes to prevent brush fires. That said, I have no idea what work train was operating there on Monday, not that it matters at this point sadly.
  3. Looks like the MTA now admits that a work train locomotive was indeed the culprit, reminds me of 5 years ago already: https://www.recordonline.com/article/20150427/NEWS/150429413
  4. I wondered that too but also read a social media post that it started with a downed power line but my first thought was also a railroad issue as a downed power line doesn't jive with all of those individual areas of smoke .
  5. One of the many shots from the Town of Fishkill PD Facebook page.
  6. Brush fire season is certainly here now, multiple fires yesterday and again today, looks like a big one along the Hudson Line south of Beacon currently.
  7. First heard them up here earlier this week.
  8. And I hear peepers down along the river...
  9. I had a few sleet showers a couple of hours ago
  10. With 2.2” for Feb that makes 20.9” on the season here
  11. Well if you want to be all serious, you are pretty darn close, today is equal to 10/13 but I still argue its spot on for 2/28
  12. The last season that my low for the winter was above 5 was '07-'08 when the winter low was 7 on 1/3/08. My low for this winter is also 7 on 12/8/19.
  13. Anyone know what today’s sun angles is? I’m guessing late Feb?
  14. I have to look to see what my Feb total is but through the end of Jan I was at 18.7" for the season. '15-'16 was a season total of 12.1", '11-'12 was 23.5", so this year is better than four years ago at least. What did you get in '15-'16?
  15. So this morning it’s really really time to cancel?
  16. So are we thinking we are in a delayed but no denied pattern or is winter over? Please advise.
  17. Well that would clearly impact your holiday travel plans
