  1. Winds gust to 38 mph with visibility of 0.25 back home, not often you see something like that and it isn’t snow
  2. I wonder if there is a compilation somewhere on the internet of all the events with 60+ gusts in the region over the past few decades, if there is there definitely has to be an upward tick in frequency in the past 10 years
  3. They’ve become the norm dating back to March 2010, I think we got one at least once a year now
  4. We’ve had 7 here in SW suffolk since the 90s, based on trained spotter reports in the public information statements from upton: 1996, PDII, Dec 2009, Feb 2013, Jan 2015, Jan 2016, and now Jan 2022. I guess we’ve been really lucky or something.
  5. That inland runner that crushed buffalo gave us like 2” of rain so probably, idk how much LE we got from the blizzard and early january snowstorm though
  6. Idk how NJ loses power so frequently, I haven’t lost power back home on long island since Sandy. It’s not like theres no trees in my neighborhood either
  7. Yeah the snow maps are nearly identical with this one and Jan 2015, this one was a little farther west I think with the heavy stuff and overall it was probably more enjoyable for most of us because expectations were not for at least 2 ft lol
  8. There has to be some where in the hamptons that approached 30” if not 3 ft, too bad no one sent in any reports
  9. I accidentally took this yesterday when I meant to take a picture but it actually came out pretty good https://streamable.com/0fgwjr
  10. In front of my house, by the time the wind died down, this drift was around 40” high
  11. Imagine the January 2018 blizzard with its 949 mb pressure made a loop south of montauk instead of speeding away just east of the benchmark? That would of been the blizzard to end all blizzards. I have to agree in regards to wind that January 2018 was stronger, I remember getting frequent gusts into the 50s with that one, this one was still obviously a blizzard out here in western suffolk but gusts were mostly in the 35-45 mph range besides a few isolated around 50. Snowfall rates 2018 wins too 3”/hr here then, today was 2”/hr at worst, but the duration of this event allowed it to still pull ahead in the final snowfall totals department
  12. Yeah I’m leaning towards about 18-20” in lindenhurst, that final band really pushed us to bust high after it sat over us for a couple of hours
  13. Almost impossible to measure due to all the drifting, (some spots are literally bare while some drifts are nearly 4 ft high) but Im thinking I got somewhere around 14-16” (maybe as high as 18”) of snow here. Definitely worth the (literal) price of admission.
  14. Still getting some pretty strong wind gusts here, one to 49 mph not to long ago. 51 mph was the peak here around daybreak
  15. Jan 2016 is the king for the south shore. Only storm I’ve gotten more than 2 feet of snow in
  16. They’ve been cranking under the core of that little band for a good couple hours now, probably had 2”/hr rates
  17. Last time I checked I had about 7.0” of snow here, that was maybe 2 hours ago
