  1. This UHI thing is for real. Walked to the red hen and even with the sun OTH you could feel the heat radiating off the bricks and cement like a blast furnace. At least back in the woods.you just have to worry about the air temp and not this radiating thing. And somehow the mosquitoes are like 10x worse in the city, I didn't think there was any water left in the district at this point so I don't know where they're breeding.
  2. Thats a real brave and contrarian call.
  3. That was a major bust, all it did was drizzle and probably spread the dog pee all over the sidewalks. Guess I gotta hold out hope for round 2.
  4. Looks like we're about to get blasted in DC. Finally, we need to wash the old built up dog pee off the sidewalks so I can walk my dog without him stopping to sniff every 10sec. I hope.
  5. JB still holding that it's going to turn toward Texas.
  6. Looking at the radar I don't see how anybody can call the incoming complex a miss?
  7. It hit us hard. Must've been some intense straight line winds locally, our neighbor a few houses down had a number of the tops of large.trees break right off and branches down everywhere. Luckily that just missed us and we had only heavy rain. My porch umbrella did blow over and fall on my rain gauge shattering it so I don't know how much we ended up with. Was pretty heavy for about 20mins though.
  8. Woohoo, storm with heavy rain down in Calvert!
  9. No rain here last night that I can tell. It's nice and breezy out but it feels more like santa ana winds and will probably just dry everything out more. Most of my smaller shrubs have started wilting at this point.
  10. I must've waited fifteen red light cycles to turn from First to NY Ave. Avoiding that whole area like the plague until construction is done. I'm impressed they were doing work in the beating sun with no visible cooling stations around.
  11. 92F down by the bay. When I left DC it was def oppresive my car's AC couldn't keep up when I was idling. And there's some crazy traffic at the triangle at New York Ave. What a mess. Feels much nicer down here in the woods.
  12. I can almost hear the bells of the Sistine Chapel, it's only a matter of time. I can already see the back end of this heat wave, summer's basically over.
  13. Idk, seems to have gotten more oppressive in the past couple hours. Heat dome so strong my ears are popping.
  14. I'm going back to the Bay house tomorrow. Just in time for the real heat. Hopefully the AC in my ancient Subaru holds up for the drive home.
  15. It is dry out, I'll give it that.
  16. Not impressed with this heat wave so far. It's not even that hot in the city.
  17. Lock it in. Sent from my Pixel 8 Pro using Tapatalk
  18. Similar setup to the derecho from 2012. Hopefully we can avoid that scenario.
  19. Sort of looks like JB's trademark "ridge over troubled waters" pattern setting up.
  20. We recently bought a rowhome in Bloomingdale NW as a city getaway. We get our keys this week and this weekend will be our first weekend up in the city. Is it a ton more oppressive downtown compared to out by the bay? My wife has visions of walking around the mall outside but I'm thinking that's better for September, or maybe at 4am before the sun comes out...
  21. Not to mention Bermuda ridges all winter long.
  22. That's a very cool site? Can you explain the units for soil moisture? My guess is cubic meter of water per cubic meter of soil but it's not clear from the graph. Does it take into account the density of the soil type or is it just purely a volumetric measurement? How do they track that in real time?
  23. I dont think I've even heard any significant thunder so far this year down here.
  24. We're supposed to be under roof for this winter. Electric is already run, site is cleared, septic has been designed but we had to move our drain field location due to other factors. Most primary construction materials are ready for delivery except for the windows and doors. Septic is holding up permit to pour the foundation, hopefully that comes through next week.
