  1. entered the negatives at the cabin -0.1F, 14.4F in Lowell
  2. I skied Jay once after a back to back 30", followed by brutal winds and cold. -17F at base without the wind. I did 2 runs and called it a day. Need the right wax for your skis. The snow makes a squeaking sound when you walk in boots. It sucked! I just checked the ECM snow depth map for Steamboat. Wasn't sure what I was looking at, then noticed it was in the 150"color. The maps don't go beyond that. Heading out 2 weeks from today. Nearly 27 feet since Thanksgiving. Not much in the forecast though. Maybe a couple feet.:D
  3. I remember hearing about it a day or two later. Tragic event, but "Where You'll Find Me" was a good read about her ordeals.
  4. It must have gotten pretty close to -100F windchill on MWN on the 15th of February, 2015. I recorded my fastest wind gust (55mph) and lowest temperature (-17F) in the same night.
  5. Not sure if it's industrywide or not, but the past 2 Saturday's have been the busiest I've seen at Waterville in the past 10 years. Cars were parked alongside the road about 1/4 mile from the Tripoli Road intersection. I think it's great for the industry, but the selfish part of me was like I'm not heading out until noon (which was what I did yesterday). It still was an amazing day. Top 3 for this season. I made a post earlier this season that I didn't think there would ever be more than a 5 minute wait with the new 6-pack bubble lift, but sure enough I'm eating leather. I avoided that lift yesterday and longest line wait was maybe 2 minutes. Even the ride back to Lowell was congested on 93 between exit 20 and the Hookset tolls. That's something I never really have to factor in the winter.
  6. It drives me nuts. I must be shadowed from the NW. I see so many bands north of me on radar, and even to the mountains to my north from my couch, but it's been flurries. Maybe a 1/4 inch today.
  7. It looked like there was more snow on the deck at 1AM. My neighbor said 6" then a crust of frozen on top. I'll split the difference and call it 5.
  8. Snowpack is down to about 3" in Lowell. About 1/2" of frozen, followed by about 1.5" of rain. Currently sitting at 36.1F. I'm guessing we got around 4" of snow last night up at the cabin, followed by an hour or so of sleet, then about 1/4" of rain. I'm guessing a little compaction, but the rain that fell probably got absorbed by the recent snow. Temps rose to 33 by this morning and holding steady at 32.
  9. Pretty weird, I just took a look at the webcam and it looks like it's snowing. Maybe there's some sleet mixed in. It's warmed to 29.5
  10. It looks like it's changing over to sleet up north. 27.2F
  11. Still snowing at the cabin, but looks like sleet might only be about 20 miles to the south. Temp slowly creeping up 25.8F
  12. Dumping up north and windy too. Exactly 10 degrees colder than here in Lowell (33.1).
  13. Had to post this map in the NNE thread. It wouldn't be nice in any other thread.
  14. The trip back to Lowell yesterday afternoon was harrowing. What normally takes 90 minutes took nearly 3 hours. At least a 1/2 dozen cars off the road. Webcam shows it was a little windy towards the end of the storm, but looks like I got that final 1/2" to bring my total to 10". Hopefully we don't end with too much rain Thursday.
  15. Direct measurement from the driveway. Another 1/2" since the measure. Can I squeak out another 1/2" to get to double digits?
  16. Just measured 9", still coming down, but end is near (I think ). Last photo, I promise!
  17. I LOVE an overproducer. It's just been dumping last hour or so. End is near, but best rates so far.
  18. It's going to suck driving back through this crap, but it's also nice to see it finally looks like it's supposed to late January. Skied a couple natural trails today. Technically closed, but Waterville does a terrible job enforcing trail closures and skiers do a terrible job respecting the signs.
  19. Snowed pretty good throughout the day adding another 4 or so inches to the 3 that fall overnight. Pack is now a foot deep with about 1.5" of glacier underneath. 29.1/28.
  20. Looking at my webcam in Lowell it looks like it barely snowed. Eyeballing about 3" in Thornton. Supposedly another 2-4" today. 25.9/24
  21. I wish I had done a core sample. If I were to guess, there was between 0.6 and 0.7" in that snow in Lowell.
