  1. Starbucks burns their beans. Destroys all the subtle flavors from the roast. They also bought and closed my favorite coffee shop of the early 90s, the Coffee Connection.
  2. 42F rain and wind here in Islandia on Long Island
  3. Light snow and 28F, looks like about 5" IMBY.
  4. It was 6 grand. 2k for the remanufactured engine (delivered from California), 3k in labor, and another grand in various parts and pieces that needed to be replaced (timing belt, motor mounts, suspension linkages/bushings, engine sensors, and other stuff that broke when changing engines). This is for a 97 accord. Always garaged, no rust, one owner (my in laws bought it for my wife after she graduated from college, and I got it when we married), everything else works great, even the AC. With the new engine and new suspension bushings, it like a new car, but I don't need to worry about dings or dents, 'cause its already got those. The other piece of the puzzle is I have 3 teenagers, including 2 boys who are on the verge of getting their drivers licenses. With insurance costs so high for new male drivers, having a cheap car makes that bill more manageable.
  5. Blew the engine in my Accord a couple of months back. Car prices are so wacked right now that I opted to replace the engine, instead of the car.
  6. If it can't get worse, it can only get better.
  7. Truck pulls the boat, but I wash the boat more than the truck.
  8. I usually just click on the last page of the storm threads.
  9. Must be ski season in New England ! lol
  10. Whistler Blackcomb was like that last time I visited. 5K verts, but the good snow didn't start until you were at the top of your 3rd lift.
  11. Part of Wildcat's staffing issue is probably related to the lack of places to live nearby. I was a ski bum after college for a season at Steamboat. I was living in a house about 15 minutes to the mountain. The house was damaged in a fire due to a faulty safety on the heating system, and we had to leave the house. Nearest place I could find to live was in Oak Creak, about 50 minutes away. That was enough for me to call it quits to my ski bum experience.
  12. Royal Flush is an awesome trail, but it doesn't last long in the spring, it's got a southeasterly exposure and gets blasted by the sun as it gets higher in the sky later in the season.
  13. I have both blower (electric) and a couple of rakes, but use my lawn mower with bag attached to do most of the leaf clean-up. Just run 'em over and dump the bag. Makes good compost.
  14. I remember this back in the 90s. One Vet's day we skied off this lift in the morning, and when the mid station line got too long, we switched to mountain biking off the same lift in the afternoon.
  15. July and August this year were the worst since install in 2016. August was down 15%, and July was down almost 25% over average. March and April were records and May and June were real good months, too. SRECs are in the bank from that great spring, thank you Eversource ratepayers ! lol
  16. This was the issue when I was ski bumming at Steamboat back in 90/91. We lost our shitty farmhouse (I shared with 4 other early 20 somethings) to a furnace fire and the next nearest housing I could come up with mid season was in Oak Creek, 40 miles away. I was driving an old RWD station wagon and the high country roads were always snow covered, and if you went off the road for any reason, you got a ticket. I gave up and came back east before the season was over.
  17. 1.4 " total, currently 51F breezy with misery mist, some leaves down.
  18. If you have an air compressor, it's easy to do yourself. I cut in a fitting on the copper line coming out of the house where I can connect my air compressor line. Takes me about 30 minutes with 10 cfm air compressor to cycle through all 7 zones. Close the valves in the basement, re-teflon tape the fittings and install, ready to go for the spring.
