Jan 30th-February 1st 2026 Arctic Blast/ULL Snow OBS Thread.
Shocker0 replied to John1122's topic in Tennessee Valley
Not sure if I picked the best or worst weekend to get a cabin on a hill in Pigeon Forge. Think I'm stuck for a while -
I wonder will see another burst right around sunset this evening like seems typical in the plateau areas with these systems.

I took my new drone out to a waterfall by the house. We got about 3" of unexpected snow! I'm about to go back shortly and walk down to the waterfall and take pics with my regular camera. Hopefully the snow will still be on the trees with how light and fluffy it is. Currently 12 degrees here, dropped slightly from our peak of 14 a couple hours ago.

Here they got big and went straight to freezing rain. But that still took maybe an hour.

Switched to mostly freezing rain here now NW of Crossville. About 1-1.5 inches of snow before the switch.

The snow has been picking up here. Not sure how much longer it will last, but probably more than I expected to get for the whole event just because it hasn't switched over to sleet/frz yet. 23 degrees, slowly climbing.

Dusting of snow near Crossville and has been snowing steady for an hour or two. I notice TDot must've added cameras at 304mm (near Monterey on Putnam/Cumberland line) and 333mm (near Crab Orchard) recently, which is helpful for travel conditions on the plateau.

Canadian = terrible

That was February 21, 2015. We had 1-2" of ice in Crossville. Most areas around us (outside the plateau) actually got mostly snow I think.
-
The terrible Crossville Ice Storm was 2/21/15. January 29-30, 2010 Crossville got a decent bit of ice (due to a warm nose) on top of about 5-6" of snow, but nothing at all like 2015.

Good dusting here between Crossville and Monterey. Big flakes the whole time. It switched to snow just after midnight central here
-
Temperature dropped to 33 but all rain here and will stay that way I'm sure.
-
34 here NW of Crossville. I *think* it's just raining here though, lightly.
-
It's been snowing here off and on all day. Mostly sticking to the trees which is pretty.

We got down to 14 this morning! Most of the snow is gone now except for shaded areas, but I got lots of cool pictures

Historic Tennessee Valley Cold, Snow, and Ice Events
Shocker0 replied to Carvers Gap's topic in Tennessee Valley
I was 5 years old in 1993 and remember trick-or-treating on Halloween in the snow in McCreary County, KY (just across the border from Oneida). I don't remember how much, but it's one of my earlier childhood memories for sure. 3 inches sounds about right- 137 replies

Same here. Some of the most intense snow in years, immediately followed by bright sunshine. Then repeat.
-
Very strong band just went through here

Flew my drone over Cumberland Cove this morning between Monterey and Crossville. Still some good fall colors surprisingly, mixed in with the snow. We are currently in a lull, and the sun was trying to peek out at times. 23 degrees.

It's been snowing good all morning here NW of Crossville. It's sticking to the roads now. School is canceled. If it snows enough, I'm planning to drive around and get some rare fall leaf photos in the snow, as long as they didn't all fall yesterday -
Big hail at my house near Crossville just now

We had a couple decent snow showers in Crossville yesterday. Chilly this morning. Video: https://streamable.com/ldnno4
