  7. Let's hope this is wrong! I agree, I'm ready for 70s

  9. Euro and gfs are showing some pretty bad levels of rain for the socal environment re:flooding
  10. UMD closed campus at 3pm, which means I get out of an in-person meeting at 400pm. Thanks nature, please don't shut off my power now.
  11. Was kind of pleasant with the breeze while it was still overcast on my morning walk. That burned off around 830 and the streets got hot fast.
  12. https://weather.cod.edu/satrad/?parms=nrnmidat-02-24-1 You can see it in a big arc reaching from MN through the midwest to PA... headed our way
  13. another "top of the grass blades moistener" type rain here near downtown silver spring. we'll take it though
  14. Thanks, I figured it out. Just needed to cut the crap out of the URL. https://www.wrh.noaa.gov/map/ - fixed link A whopping 0.01 at my closest station.
  15. Beautiful day, but getting crispy here in metropolitan Silver Spring. Rain yesterday basically got the grass wet. Does anyone have a replacement link for this mesonet site? I used to go here to check local precip totals. https://www.wrh.noaa.gov/mesowest/gmap.php?zoom=11&extents=38.873459,-77.525547,39.299833,-76.989963&density=1&precip=1&value=P24I
  16. Gloomy day here in Silver Spring, hoping for some
  17. Surprisingly cool at solar noon in the Silver Spring area with the breeze rolling through.
  18. This webcam from Cornell is illustrative: https://www.cornell.edu/live-view/ Usually you can see the lake off in the distance -- about a mile away. cool vid from Keuka lake:
  19. Time sensitive, but we have to hope this huge blob headed toward central NJ doesn't drift too far south: https://weather.cod.edu/satrad/?parms=subregional-Mid_Atlantic-02-24-1-100-1&checked=map&colorbar=undefined
  20. Lots of reasons for this, but one big one is that the aggregate vehicle fleet is MUCH cleaner than it was in the 1980s, and much cleaner than it was in 2000s. All of the hybrids and EVs, and tougher fuel efficiency standards, have really helped. So has the switch away from coal toward burning natural gas for power.
  21. Yep, put on a KN95 for the first time in a while this AM for the walk to school with my kid. He has reactive airway disease and was really feeling it, so he also wore one. They aren't perfect but they stop some of it. Better than nothing. The sky over the middle school just east of downtown Silver Spring around 845am:
  22. Seems to still be true this am
  23. Salvaged a day in Cape Charles, cloud cover and a breeze but no rain. Temps only in the mid sixties so not exactly beachy. It's very dry down here. Not for long!
