  1. JFK and LGA really? those sub 1" totals are the result of their last measurements being at 1 am. why are they too lazy to measure when the storm ends and is there a number we can call to wake them up and complain about their laziness?
  2. what about the connection between AGW and more frequent occurrences of super el nino events, Chris?
  3. cant call it a huge bust considering this is what we normally get in these scenarios. Snow is officially over now, all precip echoes seem to be offshore now!
  4. how much was your snow total and what time did you changeover yesterday?
  5. Thats right! I now remember that blizzard we got in early January that was a bonafide blizzard! Longest true blizzard conditions since January 2016! That pattern reminded me of 1995-96 for a while until it flipped but it flipped back again just like 1996 did but not as quickly as 1996 did. In 1996 it flipped back to cold at the end of January and we had a snowy February. It didn't flip back to that until March in 2018.
  6. What time did you change to snow yesterday? I think Staten Island changed over before everyone else in the city.
  7. Yeah this is just fine. If we get a couple more like these this month, I'll be happy.
  8. the sun is now poking through little holes in the clouds so this is just about over.
  9. still very light snow here, it's about 1.5" total. wish you could see how beautiful it looks!
  10. snow holding on to the south shore as the sun comes up with everything caked in snow.
  11. Chris, the 2017-18 winter was cold? I dstinctly remember unprecedented warmth (80 degrees) in February and early season mosquitoes and ticks! It got cold and stormy in March and early April.
  12. I see in the NE forum they are saying that the Euro brings back the deep cold later in the period with more snow chances. Friday is a day to look out for snow also.
  13. snowing here again, looks beautiful outside, like a picture post card!
  14. haha you remember that storm like I remember the Thanksgiving 1989 storm down here. I had to get up early to help my dad clean the driveway and I remember hearing him mutter under his breath words I had never heard before! ps surprise storms are the best! they are certainly remembered the best lol.
  15. it must've been rather windy in that 71 storm- 71 was quoted as the last time that the Thanksgiving parade balloon-fest was canceled in NYC!
  16. still snowing in Brooklyn and north of us so we may not be completely done yet
  17. this storm is being compared to the late Dec 2002 storm up there, were the temps around the same in that one?
  18. Don, do you think the rest of the month, starting with next Monday will be above normal and pretty snowless?
  19. Snow intensity has lightened up significantly, looks like it might be stopping soon.
  20. its been snowing here in SW Nassau steadily since 8 PM last night! started at 2:30 PM snowed hard for an hour and then it was on and off until 8 PM since when it's been going pretty good, parking lots, driiveways and trees are caked, roads are clear though except for the edges
  21. Our snow season is January and February. Patience. Anything before that or after it is a bonus.
  22. this is recycled cold air, not true arctic air. Even Albany was in the low 30s throughout and they had 40 hours of snow! why are our longest highest precip storms mixed precip and not all snow?
  23. yep, probabilities are highest of getting 1-3" in this kind of pattern, thats why you see tv mets go on the conservative side- they have the most chance of verifying.
  24. in this age of megastorms, we've also had a lot of 1-3" events just like this what we've missed out on is the moderate to low level significant events- a la events of 4-6" or 6-9" we either get 1-3" or less or 10" + The Poconos busted too, they were supposed to get over a foot and got less than 6.
