  1. NYC might have been undermeasuring in both cases. JFK received 26 inches in PD2 and 22 inches if I recall correctly in Feb 83. JFK should be considered part of NYC (I believe the highest total of all three NYC locations should be taken as the official snowfall total during snowstorms.)
  2. I think Feb 83 and PD 2 were closer to Jan 1996?
  3. Don, how low does this winter rank on the winter severity index? I would think it was near the bottom, I can only think of 1972-73 and 2001-02 being lower.
  4. if we were evolving towards a La Nina wouldn't that make the summer even hotter? But it would mean a much less impressive winter next time.... Looks like we have the coldest temp of March coming for next weekend? I see the forecasts for mid 20s lows even down at the coast!
  5. Yes that would be a far better route to take! I would also like them to incorporate some of the tools we use for long range forecasting, like analogs. Many of us saw this kind of of a winter coming early on.
  6. I'm thinking that we are going back into a similar pattern wrt to our next few summers also (and next year will be near the peak of the 11 yr solar cycle of very hot summers.)
  7. Don why dont they remove the new core....and what was the reason for its introduction? "If it's not broke dont fix it."
  8. seems to be similar to the progression in 2001-02
  9. That will be refreshing! Will we see another heat spike when that High moves offshore, Chris?
  10. that was 2013, we had a streak of 100 degree summers from the historic 2010 thru 2013. I feel like we're getting back into that pattern, especially since next summer (2021) will be part of the 11 year cycle of hot/dry summers
  11. Not yet..... 67 so far.... I mean before today! Now it's 72 with a NW wind gusting to 32 mph..... if this was July we'd hit 100 at the coast with low humidity, my perfect weather :-) Still a far cry from the very memorable 85 on this date in March 1990.
  12. If they think Opening Day will only be delayed by 2 weeks then they're just kidding themselves.
  13. talk about extremes.... it hit a low of 6 in 1888 and a high of 85 in 1990 on this date.... I remember that mid March heatwave very well.
  14. have you had 70 yet? I think this is warmer than what Monday was!
  15. Maybe next winter will be like 2002-03 was. I see a lot of similarities between this winter and 2001-02. I could see this summer being like 2002 (hot/dry) also.
  16. we may not have any sporting events for like 2 months! I am going by China where they were in bad shape for 7 weeks before things started to improve.
  17. imagine if it was ALL SNOW. The other one I want to see is a redux of Feb 1921 ALL SNOW. check out the liquid equivalent of that storm lol. 5" = 50" of snow! what was going on back then that we had storms like those two?
  18. more than made up for in Jan 2016!
  19. so it went on in March 1888 even after the big blizzard?! I would like to see pictures from that!
  20. and looks like Seattle is going to get some snow!
  21. I loved the contrast between the winters and summers, the high dewpoint summers we are having now are definitely the worst, I'd much rather have the high heat low humidity summers that actually feel refreshing because the air is so dry. I think we're headed towards more of those summers, especially with the 11 year cycle peaking again next year.
  22. I wonder if we'll see another hot streak of summers like we did in the early 2010s
  23. that was one of the most amazing games to watch, I loved every second of it!
  24. shades of 2001-02 (and 1972-73 too)
