it has the razor sharp cut off south of the south shore of Long Island just like Dec 2003 did. So a combo of Feb 1922, Dec 1992, Dec 2003 and Dec 2010?

Feb 1922 was around 20 inches of sleet. Biggest Precip event we've ever had. It would be incredible to have the wind of Dec 1992 and the precip of Feb 1922 and both of their long duration.

looks like Dec 1992. Even if only rain that would be a historic storm with far more impact than any snowstorm we've ever had in our lifetimes.

I heard a loud yell that woke me up and I looked around confused because there's no one else here. I looked outside and there isn't anyone outside at this ungodly hour either. Then I got on here. Oh, so that was you.

also like Feb 1994 where we flipped to light rain after 11 or so inches of snow. There was also a December storm where we got 9 inches of snow and then flipped to rain sometime during the mid 80s and another one in the early 90s. Feb 1995 also comes to mind.

I see another interesting tidbit in there- February is going to finish with a 10.1 inch average- when was the last time we had a 30 year monthly average in double digits? -

maybe what we have been talking about is now coming to fruition, the aberrant behavior of our new climate norms has simply become too complex to boil it down to just ENSO. There are larger factors at play which are going to cause different outcomes because of the changing background state. -

wait something just occurred to me, NYC still has a chance to attain the 30 inch avg for the 30 year climate period doesn't it and the decade doesn't it? The decade doesn't end until Dec 31st night! -
Three storms, Walt? I thought there are just two (Monday and Wed-Thurs)?

so it really might be like Boxing Day 2010

Not a UFO but I did get a picture of the Horsehead Nebula through my very light polluted side yard (there's a post office parking lot nearby that stays lit up all night.

I see a lot of 12/5 analogs in there and a big surprise to see Boxing Day in the mix too. The 12/5/95 storm wasn't the big one that month though but the 12/5/03 event sure was.

I remember this happened in Feb 2008 and we ended up getting 6-8 inches of snow. That can happen in February though, it's more difficult to do in December

what was the low at JFK compared to FOK, Chris? -
and Feb 1961! one of the greatest winter precip storms of all time (right behind Feb 1922 and just ahead of Jan 2016) We need to go back and retroactively start naming these so that they can be catalogued properly (especially when there is more than one of these in a month)

thats awesome I wonder what the temp is at- Muttontown (coldest place in Nassau) and FOK (coldest place on Long Island) as well as MJX (pine barrens of NJ) and JFK and MVY (pine barrens of NE)

I was looking for the northern lights tonight but couldn't see them but as luck would have it, I saw a bright meteor streaking below Sirius that was just about as bright as Sirius itself! Also as luck would have it, my camera was sitting on its tripod pointed right at the meteor.....but with a drained battery! =\ I think this was an early Geminid, and the shower is supposed to peak Saturday night (when it's supposed to be cloudy here) but I should have one more night to see the shower tomorrow night (and maybe Sunday night again?)...so I'm recharging the battery now. Looks like the peak of the Geminids is actually Sunday night- Monday morning, so I'll have a few more chances!
