I suppose it counts as a white Christmas if there was at least an inch on the ground by 7 PM Christmas evening (the last regular measurement of the day)?
Yep, and they were actually quite similar. Both featured December MECS then a multiweek break in January and then winter came roaring back in February and March. The big difference was 95-96 had the January 1996 blizzard, there was nothing that huge in 1966-67. But many more moderate events that stacked up, especially later in the season.
Imagine if Central Park had a 30" snowstorm like JFK did in January 2016 and the measured amount was like 29" at 1 am and another inch fell until the snow ended at 3 am and they didn't measure again until 7 am and missed that extra inch. On top of that all the airports recorded 30"+ People would be really pissed that they undermeasured a once in a lifetime storm at Central Park.
Many.... but drones are a serious source of light pollution, I can't tell you how many times I'm outside trying to take pictures of the night sky and an annoying drone buzzes by like a bee and I want to down the damn thing
This isn't a now thing, it's been like this for a few years now.
At the very least they should not be allowed to fly at night EVER

Boy undergoes open heart surgery after being hit by drone at Orlando holiday show
I wonder what the exact figure is (not that it really matters).... for example in a La Nina winter what is the minimum amount of snow that has fallen in December that had at least 25" of snowfall?
Don did you hear about the drone accident in Orlando? a fleet of them crashed into each other and then landed on a 7 yr old boy and tore open his chest and burned his face. He needed open heart surgery.
Reading some of the old records, something like this happened during the late 1700s and 1800s at NYC and Philadelphia..... ones I remember reading about offhand that were like this were 1782-83, 1804-05, 1842-43, 1866-67 Snowcover from Thanksgiving through St Paddy's day and around 100 inches of snow in those winters for both cities.
We were so lucky to have experienced some awesome winters like that, not sure if we are going to have anything like 93-94, 95-96, 02-03, 09-10, 10-11, 13-14 and 14-15 again in our lifetimes.
