  1. Why is this storm SO small and why have storms recently been small like this? January 1996 in this position would have heavy snow all the way back to the midwest. January 2016 too.
  2. I thought we were worried about this storm being a hugger? More west and it would be.
  3. yes elevation and latitude plays best this time of year.
  4. March 1998 roasted after that with temps in the mid to upper 80s, actually topped March 1990 in heat but I rank March 1990 higher because the heat that March occurred much earlier in the month. And then 1990 flipped and we had an early April snow event with 1-2 inches of snow lol.
  5. That map looks like less than the first map, 2-3 inches and that's on 10:1 so half of that is more likely.
  6. Unfortunately, this la nina was like a strong el nino for the first half of the season, which is why we got the worst possible combo.
  7. That 8-10 inches is enough for me, don't need any more than that. Beggars can't be choosers and especially when it's back end snow it's a lot better than front end snows that get washed away. It would qualify right up there with the best March snows of the last 3 decades here.
  8. on the dotted line buried in the snow lol
  9. Be careful with that, 11 bodies found already, massive power outages and those people were trapped in their homes under all that snow.
  10. Probably 8....10 inches was in parts of the city and 13 inches at Newark
  11. 1912 - The barometric pressure reached 29.26 inches at Los Angeles, CA, and 29.46 inches at San Diego CA, setting all-time records for those two locations. (David Ludlum) I wonder if this was accompanied by an intense cyclone? I mean it would have to be, but how high were the winds and waves?
  12. Thats not how it works though, climate change means more extremes so more of these atmospheric river events. One thing is clear though, for us specifically it means a smaller more concentrated JF snowfall season, so I never bite into very late or very early season events anymore. One rule I steadfastly follow, if JF are bad then our snowfall season is screwed.
  13. It was being advertized on national media for a week in advance, I remember seeing forecasts for 2-3 feet of snow for the entire east coast megalopolis region on The Today Show lol
  14. Maybe not, climate change has been decreasing snowfall in many parts of the world (like the Alps), so it was bound to happen here sooner or later. Look, if you really love snow that much, you should live in the mountains. In the Poconos we had 6 inches of snow from the last storm.
  15. In March you really want to be in the mountains. My house in the Poconos has 6 inches of snow from the last storm lol. Anyone who really loves snow that much should live in the mountains.
  16. whatever the enso was this year would have been horrible for us. also enso is only 20% of a factor in our weather
  17. well the first half of winter was an extreme el nino set up. California usually gets shut out in la ninas it shows ENSO doesn't really matter that much
  18. thats what we've been saying all winter did you see how tacoman has been shouting in glee because of how great it's been out west and how bad it's been here? I've been tempted to tell him no one outside of New Mexico cares about New Mexico weather.
  19. this is what happens when the rest of the season has sucked too
  20. why? we'd have a lot more snow out of this in a real winter month
  21. 2000-01 was a very good winter with almost 3 feet of snow on the entire season. The March 2001 scenario was bound to repeat at some point lol, it's why I've been talking about it for a week.
  22. March 1997 had a bad outcome for us, while March 2015 was much better. Does the preceding winter have an impact on outcome-- I think it would.
