  1. I've sometimes seen this in the Poconos, it must be remnant moisture from the lakes? It can snow all day and not pile up at all, but it sure looks pretty to see it fall. It just leaves dustings behind. Meanwhile when I come back here it's just clear and windy and cold lol.
  2. why do rainstorms last for 5 days and snow events last for 12 hours?
  3. and why does the media complain when it's cold? and then they talk about climate change lol. With how much the media says get this cold weather out of here and let's get back into the 50s (in the middle of winter!), you'd think they'd love climate change. They just need to pick one thing, either you like warm weather and want climate change or you love cold weather and don't want it.
  4. Mild is okay as long as it's sunny. I saw a map that indicated it would be in the 60s on Friday.... but not sunny? But by Saturday it'll be sunny again and around 50? I'd rather have that.
  5. on the positive side.... February has an extra day this year lol. And luckily it comes at the end of the month sooooo an extra day for it to snow?!
  6. Does Central Park's 2.3" tie it with the overall total for last season?
  7. wow thats so interesting, for 3 years in a row we received double digit snowstorms around 1/20-- in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
  8. and will it be sunny? I see they are saying sunny and 50s for Saturday
  9. what was the amount that actually fell across the area? this one didn't change to rain did it?
  10. Well I'd like to limit it to the east coast in general, east of the Mississippi.
  11. I see there was a year just before official records being kept when NYC recorded 90" of snow in the 1860s? But even before that I have heard that both NYC and Philly reached 100" of snow, do you have any idea what years this might have happened in, Don?
  12. Thanks, Larry! What would you say overall was the snowiest winter if you use all available records and accounts going as far back as possible?
  13. -9 and -10 have to be close to the all time records for ACY and TTN too.
  14. that was such a nice well balanced snowfall season-- was this a weak el nino, Don?
  15. Thanks, Tony! and I believe -3 is the all time record low for LGA. And -8 for EWR?
  16. Yes, that's a huge problem. Most of our good to very good to great winters started off with a nice December. Some exceptions, but this was generally true.
  17. wow it's absolutely amazing there are records from 1835! I wonder if we have snowfall records going back that far (for NY as well as for Charleston.)
  18. Can't the media or someone at all question them and ask them why they're putting down all this salt? There needs to be some accountability here.
  19. Positively epic! I wish we could figure out why NYC never gets below -2 anymore lol. Is JFK'S all time record low -2? I haven't seen them ever get lower than that.
  20. it's nice to see so much snowfall even with average temperatures above freezing in that period, Don! How much snow did we have outside of January and February? We had snow even in April didn't we?
  21. It's easier to go by norms by the end of the month, since this is what we'll have at the end of the month too lol. Normal snowfall in December is 3" and it's 7" in January. So by the end of January we should have 10" Also, remember we are population weighed towards the coast, the more you get away from the water the less the number of people that live there.
  22. la ninas after el ninos are the snowiest season of all but just to sum it all up-- enso itself constitutes only 20% of our weather.
  23. This morning in 1985 was JFK's last low of below zero and it was also the last time the city had a high in single digits. It was also the coldest president inauguration in history.
