  1. I'm glad that JFK and LGA finally have a 60 year climate record! They both started in 1960 or just before?
  2. Lots of similarities between this month and December 1989 :-)
  3. I really hate that term *the aughts* it sounds ancient and too much like *the eights* why can't we just call it *the zeroes*? I understand there was no year *zero* but now that we are smart enough that we know what zero means, why not go back and renumber the calendar and create a year zero? That would fix this entire mess and then the millennium would indeed begin on January 1, 2000.
  4. They finished at 8.0 but there was a site just east of the city that reported 11.5
  5. we had that here too, I think it was blowing snow. The visibility was very low and I don't think the snow shield could make it this far west.
  6. and that doesn't look to change anytime soon.
  7. that Milton, FL state record has been upped to 9.8 inches now, basically 10"
  8. when we talk about the 80s we're really talking about the late 80s, the early 80s were much better.
  9. It was my first ever snowstorm memory. I only wish I could experience it again, but even at the age of 8 I was calling 976-1212 every hour for updates (to my parents chagrin) and woke up at 3 am to see the snow falling in the streetlamps on Ocean Parkway in Brooklyn where I lived at the time.
  10. This was their February 1978
  11. 10 inches of snow in the Florida Panhandle wow. close to a foot near New Orleans
  12. Much cheaper to make though. Probably like the WWE is scripted (that's on there now too.)
  13. I wonder where in Florida? How come no snowfall in Jacksonville?
  14. This is why scripted TV shows are being replaced with *reality TV* too. As one example, nearly all of the scripted TV shows on CW11 have been replaced with reality shows, usually involving police car chases or reality dating shows.
  15. or May I guess. We had snowtober but that wasn't a blizzard, though NYC did have a Winter Storm Warning, I never thought I'd see that in October lol.
  16. Smart.... mine is corded all over my yard and I'm always worried about squirrels gnawing at the cords.
  17. But is all this necessary if you don't keep it in the sun? I always keep my sensors on the north side of the house under the shade of a tree. I haven't felt the need for fan aspiration or any of that stuff or even a radiation shield.
  18. Is this more rare than the April 1982 Blizzard? Can't talk about sun angle, that snow stuck around for an entire week and we had another snow event a week later.
  19. 8 inches now!! https://x.com/DylanFedericoWX/status/1881810505725317518
  20. the digital stuff is quite accurate regardless of price, I got a very cheap one from Radio Shack back in 1995 that shows min/max temp and current temp to a tenth of a degree (C) or two tenths of a degree (F) and it matches up well with JFK. Then I got a relatively inexpensive digital weather station in 2005 from LaCrosse and I'm impressed with its accuracy in measuring barometric pressure, temperature, rainfall, humidity, windspeed, etc. I could never get those old aneroid barometers to show me the right air pressure and liquid thermometers never showed the right temperature either. I'm convinced those old instruments from back in the 80s were just gimmicks.
