  1. I remember this especially during the February 1989 storm that was forecast to be 6-8 inches and it was virga all day long while Atlantic City received 19"
  2. https://www.sharperimage.com/view/product/Chemical-Free+Weed+Killer/207416?p=plist2470005&sku=207416-01&pc=20GOOGLE&utm_source=Google&utm_medium=CPC&utm_campaign=&Keyword=&device=c&creative=&cm_mmc=CPC-_-AllCategories-New-Pmax-_-NA&network=x&matchtype=&adpos=&creative=&cpgnid=20490637168&mkwid=|pkw||pcrid||pmt||pdv|c|slid||productid|207416-01|pgrid=&ptaid=&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIsou2ldfpgwMVEEpHAR3Xzg0DEAQYASABEgJlhPD_BwE I found this lol The Chemical-Free Weed Killer uses concentrated light to target and kill weeds at the root level. Infrared light creates heat that cuts off the water supply from the root, while ultraviolet light penetrates the ground to disrupt root functions, without damaging surrounding plants or grass. Chemical-Free Weed Killer The Chemical-Free Weed Killer uses concentrated light to target and kill weeds at the root level, without harmful and dangerous chemicals. • Concentrated combination of ultraviolet and UV light • Targets and kills weeds at the root level • Infrared light creates heat that cuts off the water supply from the root • Ultraviolet light penetrates the ground to disrupt the root functions • Destroys the root, root crown and leaves within 10 days • Does not damage surrounding plants or grass • Safe and environmentally friendly • No dangerous chemicals needed • Plugs into an AC outlet
  3. This is what we saw (on a much larger scale) on 2/6/2010, which is why I asked if all that snow in the Poconos would make it here because it looks like the dry air is coming from the east and northeast.
  4. It would be funny/ironic if there were two areas of snowfall, one farther north in the LHV and the other one with the IVT, with little or nothing in between. Right now, it looks like the sun wants to come out on the south shore of Long Island lol.
  5. I'm still wondering if NYC will get 0.5" I could see us all with less than an inch in this. We've all seen virga storms before.
  6. But we have already have a term for ice/freezing rain-- "ice storm warning" and sleet is measured as snow and besides that the sole measuring criteria to achieve "winter storm warning" is snowfall, that's why I thought it would be better to have a "snowstorm warning" Maybe a "snowstorm warning" should be a separate criteria from "winter storm warning"-- like we had a "heavy snow warning" in the old days-- 6" is too low of a criteria for the maximum level of warning anyway, we should have a higher one for double digit snowfalls and bring back the "heavy snow warning" If I remember correctly the old criteria for achieving a "heavy snow warning" was 10" of snow in 12 hours and 20" of snow in 24 hours?
  7. "Winter storm" Heather is here! no one remembers these names the day after they are named, there's no real purpose to them
  8. Something else I've noticed is that the phrase "snow storm" has been replaced by "winter storm" -- WHY? And why is it still called a "winter storm" if it happens in the fall or spring? This opens up a whole new can of words-- I believe the phrase "winter storm warning" should be replaced with "snow storm warning"-- we already have an "ice storm warning" for freezing rain and sleet is measured as snow, so there is no real reason to use the phrase "winter storm warning" especially when the measuring criteria for that is the amount of snow that falls. I would get rid of the term "winter storm" completely-- we should be precise in our wording, for a snow event it should be "snow storm" not "winter storm."
  9. Incidentally we had this in January 1994, in between all the ice and nice snowstorms we had a storm where it was 0 degrees for the low in NYC and it hit 32 by midnight (from 0F to 0C on the same calendar day lol) and it was rain and 58 degrees the next day on roaring SE winds of 60 mph lol. That was our second zero or subzero Arctic blast that month.
  10. There was a storm that dumped snow in DC in December and it was rain up here lol. It was forecasted to be 6-8 inches of snow but the secondary developed too close to the coast and it changed to rain and thunderstorms as soon as the snow started. This was in the middle of that historically cold December. We got a bust in the opposite direction the previous February (in 1989) when it was forecast to be 6-8 inches of snow and all we got was virga and 0 snowfall while Atlantic City got nearly 20 inches. That was another huge waste of cold air; it was overcast all day and looked like it could snow any second and come down hard, but nothing at all fell from the skies. So in 1988-89 ACY definitely beat NYC for snowfall and in 1989-90 DC beat NYC for snowfall.
  11. it would only be mentioned on the weathercast. and the weathercast was only done at the end of the newscast.... have you noticed the weather gets mentioned every 10-15 minutes now on the news even if it's sunny and mild?
