I also think about what we had in October and the first half of November and that was bad too-- it reminded me of August 1995.
-
The problem is stopping climate change won't be enough, because with all the horrible things humanity is done, it will take at least a hundred years to fix even if we stopped emissions today (not happening), and the situation will keep getting worse, so I feel that some geoengineering will be required. The concept of weaponizing weather for warfare is truly terrifying!
-
It reminds me of what happened in 06-07, the back half of winter was 8 weeks of cold. But didn't our cold start in December? With a short break at the end of the month.
-
Me too, getting rid of the mold allergies would be absolutely awesome. We're fine with 40 inches of precip, 50+ inches is way too much.
-
when is that change to warm weather supposed to come now, Tony? at this rate a below 30.0 mean in NYC for January is within reach.
-
The interesting thing about the tweet from your previous post is the idea that extreme (below zero) cold is blocked by the warmer than normal Great Lakes.
-
1953 - A severe icestorm in the northeastern U.S. produced up to four inches of ice in Pennsylvania, and two to three inches in southeastern New York State. In southern New England the ice coated a layer of snow up to 20 inches deep. The storm resulted in 31 deaths and 2.5 million dollars damage. (David Ludlum) omg, how much did we have in NYC and Long Island and in NE PA? It sounds like it was historic down here! Southeastern NY is us!
-
lol we're right smack dab in the middle of 80s winters 1981-82 and 1985-86, Don. Those weren't bad winters at all! 1981-82 had memorable cold and snowfall in both January and April !! And 1985-86 was actually a very snowy winter in Monmouth county and points south!
-
I think we've been trending towards drier months for awhile now and I expect this to continue in the following years. This isn't a GW thing it's a cyclic thing. Early 2010s was a much wetter period than the one we've now begun.
-
By the way, we're also trending towards drier months (2024 was the first drier than normal year in awhile and I expect more to follow.)
-
yes and even early 90s too. I have to think the solar max also bears some responsibility.
-
this happens in la ninas too.... for example 1988-89 and a few of the late 90s la nina winters. When you have a strong northern stream, storms generally go west to east (whether south of us or north of us.)
-
Interesting more than a few of those years also had good snowfall in March.
-
But la ninas are also back loaded, so I think people have hope that once this pattern breaks there will be better chances for snowfall.

I wasn't talking about you I was talking about the debbie downers who like to rain on everyone's parade or give out sausages for optimistic posts.- 993 replies

They need to understand that 90% of the fun is the anticipation and tracking on the models. Meteorology is a --VERY INEXACT SCIENCE-- We know it probably won't work out but who cares? We also know Santa Claus doesn't exist but we still enjoy Christmas! Let people have their fun without being a wet sock guys.- 993 replies

Occasional Thoughts on Climate Change
LibertyBell replied to donsutherland1's topic in Climate Change
Seeing all those horrible fires in California, WOW! It makes you feel helpless not being able to do anything about it. To become an advanced species humanity MUST learn to control the weather. That should be our first priority, learning how to control and stop life threatening storms and winds. -

We have that here too, but it's usually in the summer. Sometimes with thunderstorms but sometimes on a bright sunny day when the wind gusts to 20 lol. Had one of those last summer, my power went out for 4 hours and I was sweltering in the heat.

Don't do that, simulated snow is fun too. It's actually more fun to track something even if it never happens than the feeling you get after an actual snowfall ends. I think thats what the Debbie Downers dont understand, sometimes and in some winters we dont even care if it actually snows as long as we can track a possibility on the models. It's like reading a good suspense novel or watching a suspenseful movie, you know it's not true, but who cares? The reading or watching is what makes it fun!- 993 replies

snow in NW Florida isn't extremely uncommon though. Tallahassee gets small accumulating snowfalls from time to time.
-
eh that image might break the rules of this G rated thread lol.

I think elevation also helps on the north shore. I'm really jealous of that mountain they call Mount Sinai lol.
