  1. He's probably just joking around.
  2. The higher minimums contaminate that record, we measure heat by number of hot days (highs of 90 or higher.) Thus excessively wet summers get an artificial boost as does increased urbanization.
  3. Yeah this is why I'm also against countries in the Global South and other developing countries be allowed to *catch up*-- this is a global climate emergency and nature doesn't give a shit about politics or income level or region of the world.
  4. it's almost like you're begging to be weenie'd lol
  5. Thanks, it was a lot more exciting than either of the last two Marches (multiple extremes lol), or any March of this decade for that matter. Getting snow and 85 degrees in the same month is absolute weather perfection ! It cooled down after the 17th didn't it? I remember that-- and we had half an inch of snow in the first week of April that year.
  6. Yes they've been experimenting in the New Mexico desert. Wait, you want to partner with them? There are several governments looking to join in, likely by 2030.
  7. For it to be without precedence there would have to be at least 3 days with a high of 80 or higher.
  8. But no 80 degree highs? March 1990 must have started out very cold, because that heatwave in the second week was truly historic.
  9. It's not cooler, it only feels cooler. I look at that the same way I look at wind chill. Actually it didn't feel cooler, back in March 1990 everyone was wearing Bermuda shorts lol. I just don't find much usefulness in *average* temperatures.
  10. Wait, last March was #1 warmest through the first 15 days? How's this possible-- it didn't even hit 80 in March. The first 15 days of March 1990 must have been quite a bit warmer?
  11. Yes, and it's been so wet in previous years that we've had a tough time heating up in the summer. Maybe more westerlies will help? It's interesting Islip vs JFK, Islip is further east but also more inland. But JFK is usually warmer than Islip unless the wind is due south.
  12. It wouldn't really be a problem if we could get more concentrated snowfall in DJF or even just JF. If we could get 15-20 inches of snow in JF (each month, not total), then I think most would be happy.
  13. Yes March in the 80s-early 90s was very nice. Especially 1990.
  14. I noticed strong la ninas used to be much colder and snowier back then, 1916-17 and 1955-56 were much colder and snowier than 1973-74 or 1988-89, although we had colder snowier strong la ninas again with 2010-11 and 2017-18.
  15. Wow I thought it was like New York City, where both JFK and LGA (not to mention EWR) as well as Central Park do all those things. Is there any reason why they can't all be first order sites? Budgetary cuts?
  16. Yes but weather does not follow *averages* that's just a mathematical simplifying of weather. I would rather look at when the first 60 and 70 degrees of the season happen. I guarantee that the first 60 of the season happens way before April 19th and that it's actually very rare not to get 60 at least once or twice during the winter. And I don't believe there has been a single April without 70 degrees happening at least once. Averages don't give a good picture of our actual climate. Also, the ocean is great at making the weather boring (I love extremes.)
  17. 85 degrees in March 1990, 35 years ago, felt really nice too lol.
  18. lack of foliage? I don't know man, I have very fond memories of the April heatwave of 2002 with 96 degrees. It was very dry and some of the clearest and most beautiful blue skies I have ever seen.
  19. doubtful, because when it's warm here it's usually much colder near the poles.
  20. You wouldn't include Hempstead and White Plains? They have a population density over 10,000 per square mile.
  21. Saturday/Sunday should be fine (a nice weekend.)
  22. Nice, I'm on the southeast part of that pink circle lol. I think Hempstead should be included within it because it's a densely populated urban area too. So should White Plains. Anyone within the orange coloring (density of 10,000 people per square mile.)
  23. Useless fraudulent cold that disappears as soon as the sun comes up.
