  1. Bless you, Mrs J, another work of art. As always....
  2. Julian, 140 or so years ago when the postage stamp came into existence, the water source for the house was a well. At the back of the stamp was a small house over another well that was there for deposits only. At that time ‘Brook’ lyn still had them free flowing. If you walked a few hundred feet beyond the block of the new row houses you could probably still see deer and the antelope playing. Today with indoor plumbing and Tap water. I am left with a postage stamp that is a home to horny squirrels or as I lovingly call them bushy tailed tree rats, a family of raccoons who got into and trashed the third floor apartment. Incidentally I believe they’re seeking reparations because the diseased oak they used to den in, I had taken down last year. Then there are the felines, both outside and in who are above it all and feel their entitled anyway. That leaves me which is probably good enough justification for all I’ve just described. Stay well (sorry for the pun) Julian, it could be worse. As always....
  3. Yesterday, I thought it was finally raining on the postage stamp. Instead it was the damn A/C, on the floor above me, having a pissing fit. As always .....
  4. Sadly so, even in the rain, always, as always .......
  5. Dry ..., Dry..., Dry..., wit, love it. As always .....
  6. That is wonderful, Ms Mappy. Post a picture of the joy, if you can. Also one of the crabs it’s not often I get a chance to see the out of state relatives. As always .....
  7. Understood Unc., we have to move on with caution tempered with a a dose of common sense. It was like a homecoming at my barbershop early this morning. Getting rid of all that hair, at least where it still grows felt wonderful. I can cancel the curtain rods I ordered for my eyebrows. Small businesses that survive will have to recoup three months of lost income without losing three months of expenses. That challenge will be more than difficult. Onward ...... As always ......
  8. It would be a useless effort to be angry at someone for canceling something that never started. As always ....
  9. I couldn’t agree more G L. Over 35 years ago I tried in ground plants in a barren but relatively sunny area of my postage stamp. Knowing even less about soil for planting than I do now. I Just put them in the ground as is. The plants grew and did after a fashion bear some fruit. The only similarity my berries had to the variety shown on the plants sticker is that some might have been mistaken for being red. Its amazing how many interesting ingredients find their way into inner city soil after 140 years or so. Even though they looked like something taken from The Day Of The Triffids, the bushy tail tree rats made quick work of them, I received two ripped back yard window screens as a thank you. That or they wanted to make a personaL quality complaint. The berries may have been ugly and inedible but it certainly didn’t hurt the little b*******s libido any. The next year the yard could have been used as a climax scene from the movie Willard. (Yes the pun was intended, there goes another warning point) If this post seems over long and pointless, please check my brief response to Irish Rob above, As always ....
  10. I R, I’d take that comment personally, that is, if it weren’t true. As always ....
  11. My guess Is that It is owned by 15,869 non paying members and unpaid Moderators/Administrators. As always ...
  12. Thank you, L B for that information. Sadly though even a fine initiative like that will not not bring back the starry sky that must have blazed over the early 19th century farmland of Cornelius Heaney, where my Inner city row house now stands. As always.....
  13. Amazing, it looks like some atmospheric deity decided to turn the typical weather upside down. GW conversations should be on the rise after that stretch. As always ....
  14. It might be possible if the Senior Center has an unchaperoned overnighter. As always .....
  15. W.W. That sounds pretty good to me. Is it legal and can you do it alone? As always ....
  16. Anthony, it won’t be pretty if Big Bird and Bert get into it over this. At least Ernie has a job with CNN.As always ....
  17. Mrs J. The small image you see below is the unintentional attempt I alluded to. Mrs L and I had a long and sometimes contentious relationship and being a bit of a sometimes foolish sentimental romantic, I would buy her a fresh rose every so often. Depending on the state of our relationship at the moment the rose would either be lovingly placed in a bud vase or the nearest circular receptacle if I wasn’t within throwing distance. When I lost her I made the side room on our floor a memory room. I placed a live rose by her portrait. It would last a week or more and then I’d replace it. I felt bad disposing of them so began holding on to them. What you see in the photo, is the result. The pandemic stopped me from the purchase so I placed a permanent crystal rose by her portrait. A portrait of her done a few months before her 17th birthday. Mrs L’s last gift to me was the illustrated book “ The Giving Tree”. I purchased it, at her request. She was too ill to leave the house. It was five weeks before her passing. I keep it on my night table. I even wrote a review for Amazon. It was the only way I thought I could thank the author. “ Now as an old man I sit where she rests. I dream and remember”. That was the last sentence of my review. Thank you, Mrs. J for the beauty you bring to the forum, as always .....
  18. Mrs J.your hydrangeas + are a living example of why artificial stimulation is unnecessary. If you have a yard or can find a green space all you need is to open your eyes and enjoy what has always been free. If I ever figure out how to add a photo to a post I’ll share an un-intentioned floral creation of mine with you. As always ....
  19. In other cultures the heavy/main meal is the middle meal with a two hour break for rest and relaxation beginning around 1300. A late meal, if taken, is generally light. If we did that here, work truant officers would have to be sent out to get us all back. As always ....
  20. When all other words fail we are still and only left with hope. As always ......
  21. Standing in my Red Hook/Cobble Hill postage stamp back yard, even on a cool clear night, I look up and see nothing. The city that never sleeps, by necessity, keeps the lights on all night. Nary ever a star to see. As always ...
  22. Agree totally. Now For perfection just add some desert style radiational cooling. My old/odd parts may fall off but It’s worth it. As always ....
  23. Nicely done Ms Mappy. Perry Como sang it best. “Bless the beasts and the children Give them shelter from the storm. Keep them safe. Keep them warm. Light their way when darkness surrounds them Give them love” My lost love and I would go to the local churches to witness the blessing of the animals in the fall. I recall one year, at St. Pats in Bay Ridge Brooklyn the Cleric came around to each person to give an individual blessing. When he reached my wife she smiled and pointed to me. I got spritzed and it was well worth it. As always ...
  24. Well played. As always .....
