  1. Just annoying intermittent light rain here. 0.18" so far. My yard needed an underperformer.
  2. First day I have been rather bored since working from home lol. Its noon, and its happy hour... some place.
  3. An Imperial I fell in love with(damn near perfect for my taste) is Ralphius barrel aged Russian Imperial Stout, from Free Will Brewing in PA. Amazing.
  4. I prefer imperial stouts. Most have hints of dark chocolate, coffee, and sometimes dark fruit, esp the super high gravity ones. As for breakfast/coffee stouts, there are a few really good ones, and many that miss the mark. Hard to beat Founders Breakfast Stout. Some good local ones too from Evo and RAR. Flying Dog's coffee Porter is pretty good. Its the Kujo, which was originally an Imperial coffee stout, and it was excellent. Sucks they stopped making it.
  5. Good to see the really heavy stuff SE of me. LOL I will not be saying that come late June I am sure. Wont be able to buy a raindrop when we are at peak sun.
  6. I noticed the latest WPC qpf cut back some on amounts- so they must be giving some weight to the GFS shift south in recent runs. Any idea what the Euro is depicting? I selfishly want this to be a weak sauce event here lol. Been too wet for my liking.
  7. If yesterday's event had happened a month or so earlier, in another winter, I would have had 10" of snow here.
  8. I try to wait until 2 or 3 pm. I did well today, almost 4. Legit happy hour, after "work".
  9. Looks like 0.76" is the total here unless something pops up this evening. 3.20" for the month. Its been pretty wet. Wish I could save some of this for July- when I will likely be struggling to save my grass, again.
  10. Gotta say, working from home is not bad. Grab a beer whenever, do a workout when I want. Go outside and get some stuff done. I am sure this social isolation thing will get old, but not minding it right now. And it is for the greater good, and is necessary.
  11. What exactly do you mean here?
  12. Steady rain continues, despite looking like it is breaking up just to the west. Keeps redeveloping. 0.70"
  13. Rain is slacking off now. 0.58" so far. Hope its done.
  14. It will certainly send the tp hoarders back to the stores in droves.
  15. Yeah I have noticed that. Pouring here now. Looks like decent frontogenetic forcing sets up here and esp towards the coast with the developing coastal low. It has been really wet here lately. A couple weeks ago my "seasonal wetland" back in the woods was unusually dry. Water table has now broken the surface and it's expanding now. Gonna have to larvicide it as usual.
  16. Raining here light to moderately this morning. temp is 40. Heavy stuff just to my south and on the doorstep. 0.23" so far.
  17. Sounds similar to what I did. I bought the lot(completely wooded) and me and my dad removed all the trees we could with chainsaws and pulled stumps with his Kubota. Had to bring in multiple truck loads of topsoil after removing all the trees/stumps as it takes a bunch of earth with it. Initially I had a nice lawn, but nature takes its course and after a few years(and dry periods in the summer) and moles, I had to start over. I have done it several times over the years, but nature is always working against any order you try to establish lol. I have let the moss take over where it wants to grow, and I am now trying to maintain that small area of grass in the back, where it sees a fair amount of sun in the summer.
  18. Its 6 acres, and yes its mostly wooded. The only clearing is right around the house, and mostly what you see in the photo. There are some trees close to the house I need to take down.
  19. Thanks. I have gone through many a lawn revamps over the years lol. With all the trees, the moles. moss, its not easy. My strategy has been to lessen the grass area, as you can see with the mulch areas and the fire pit, lol. At least now it is manageable to the point where I may be able to water it constantly when the sun angle is high and it gets hot and dry in mid summer. Its a battle every year to keep it from burning to a crisp on the sunny side of the yard in July and August
  20. Mowed for the first time today. Impressed with this black beauty tall turf type fescue. Planted it last fall and it has come up early and already super green, which its known for. Whether it survives the long, hot(probably dry) summer remains to be seen. Tough conditions in the woods. Also got quite a bit of new mulch down. Easily 2 weeks ahead of schedule with the growing season.
  21. Remember this- we want a -AO above all. If the AO is only weakly positive, then a favorably placed EPO ridge can compensate. When we have a ++AO like this winter, we are pretty well fukked no matter what. There may well be a correlation between that and the tropical forcing tendencies, and if what psu is suggesting becomes the base state for winters going forward, get used to NC winters here.
  22. If I can get the mower going, I will mow today for the first time. Mostly to whack the chickweed down so the emerging grass can better choke it out.
  23. Might not verify, but given it is Spring, good chance it will. Maybe one day we will again see a HL h5 look like this when it actually matters.
  24. 34 here this morning. Probably one of the last "wintery" feeling days this season. Already had an 80+ day. Still predicting we see 90 by mid April.
