    COVID-19 Talk

I don't disagree. It may in fact be well into the fall, so in that respect you may be correct. It is possible there will be a vaccine available by then. I agree on your other points. Early, effective, and widely available testing would have been a game changer. Not sure how much of a difference it will make now, but it sure wouldn't hurt. Why wasn't the greatest nation on earth prepared?

    COVID-19 Talk

Well, by "all clear" I meant back to normal- i.e. reopening the economy, as Trump unrealistically wanted to do on Easter, just because. Who knows when that will happen exactly, but I am sure it will occur prior to a vaccine being developed and widely available.

Unlike all other major sports, the NFL has been "lucky" so far. This pandemic is occurring at a time when the only event impacted is the draft- and that can go on as scheduled, just under highly modified circumstances. Going forward, they are going to have to come to grips with reality. OTAs, and potentially training camps will be directly impacted, which will ultimately affect the regular season.

Is this for real? Glad we have Hogan in MD and not this mouth breather. JFC. Weather is not the only reason I would NEVER live anywhere south of here. https://thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/490758-georgia-governor-says-he-didnt-know-asymptomatic-people-could-spread

Well, we hit the one million mark globally for cases, with over 50,000 deaths.

Honestly no. I love going to Rehoboth and going to DFH and all the other cool places, but after a couple months of basically staying at home, that will be a weird transition to make. I mean I am longing for it in my mind, probably even more than usual given the circumstances, but I may be a little hesitant when we are given the "all clear".

    COVID-19 Talk

Yeah this is a good point. We all now realize what needs to be done for now and over the coming weeks, but at the same time many of us are thinking about plans we have made for the summer months, and whether or not they are even realistic at this point. Along those lines, most of us will probably respect and be fearful of the potential for a "relapse", or whatever the proper term is in the context of a pandemic, if we get 'back to normal' too quickly. Interesting times ahead.

I just got back from Giant. I saw quite a bit of that too. Also saw a completely empty TP aisle. A truly bizarre quirk of human nature. Might have to go get a bidet kit.

A shame to see Fauci getting death threats. Not unexpected, sadly.

So anyone wearing a mask when going out to get groceries now? I am heading out shortly. I have a legit respirator for spraying bad shiit. Maybe I will wear it. Should get some interesting looks.

Actually I was attempting to make what I thought was an objective, if not obvious, observation about how starkly divided people are on Trump himself, aside from ideological beliefs/policy issues. This has intensified the lack of discourse, the echo chambers, the trolling/name calling. Trump is Trump. He is who he has always been.

I was just expanding on what you were saying about the heightened lack of civil discourse and dueling echo chambers, which all seems worse than I can ever recall. The last part of my post was right along those lines. I wasn't taking any shots. But yes, I agree this wont bear any fruit here.

You stated that their way of life over there is disgusting. So you said that solely because of the wet markets? Again, you are ignorant.

My response was not specifically about the wet markets. It was the generalization you made about Chinese culture.

    COVID-19 Talk

Without hijacking the new thread lol, I will just say this. For me it is not a Democrat vs Republican thing. Sure I lean left on many issues, but I have plenty of conservative friends and relatives, and with at least a handful of them, I do discuss politics and it is actually constructive and enjoyable. The biggest dividing element today in our politics is the behavior of the president himself, who has no ideology (which could have been a good thing).
  20. It is a shame that engaging in a discussion involving politics always seems to 'devolve" into trolling and name calling, but it is a sign of the times we live in. No one is changing any minds on personal world views, etc. That said, it is possible to have rational and respectful discussions/debates, as long as those involved are open minded and have a reasonable level of intelligence.
  21. Pretty ignorant. Maybe read this, or use google to learn a little more. https://www.statesman.com/news/20200326/fact-check-is-chinese-culture-to-blame-for-coronavirus An excerpt:
  22. I suggested this a while back- that we make a separate thread for COVID-19 discussion. We are all living it, and it is natural to want to discuss it. There is simply no way to keep politics completely out of the discussion, however. Even those who are "attempting" not to, are often dancing on the edges, and showing their political leanings. I know there is virtually nothing in the sports world to discuss, but we have beer and other less serious topics. It would be nice to have banter be just banter again. A diversion from what has become the everyday reality. Just my thoughts. I will shut up now.
  23. This certainly did not help. It was part of the deconstruction of the government apparatus mantra of the current administration. https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/387191-trump-official-overseeing-pandemic-response-suddenly-leaves-admin
  24. They did this largely with early and aggressive testing. Never had to impose a hard lock down, as China did. US and UK are trying to play catch up, and we will see how it works out.
  25. Overall the typical Nina can certainly suck. My best, most memorable snow experiences over recent winters occurred in Ninas though. Back to back at the beach, baby. At least a chase should be within a reasonable distance, whether its the western highlands or the immediate coast. This last winter was an absolute dog for the most part unless you were willing to travel to NY state or NNE.
