  1. Yeah they are after food. Most likely carpenter bee larvae. Have you noticed any evidence of infestation where the woodpeckers are doing their thing? The bees drill in(typically upward) then turn 90 degrees and drill out a channel up to a foot long. Woodpeckers will peck that whole area out in no time. My fascia was damaged several times this way.

Seems bizarre to me. Above my pay grade though. I took biology and zoology in college, and found it very interesting in a fundamental context. Maybe if I had stayed at a Holiday Inn Express..

Yeah I just saw this. Interesting.
  4. The bio lab angle is more interesting/juicy, but most likely patient 1 was some sloppy fool who got bat urine or blood in his eye while slaughtering it for a customer.
  5. Yes it is. Non zero chance, but as close as it gets. Could still happen far western highlands, and somewhat more likely north of us in the interior. NNE will see more snow.

In general yeah. Esp for NY, which is the biggest hot spot. That is what the modeling has been depicting. Other places, the peak(daily deaths) will be later, but not as extreme.
  8. You can buy these online, or make them yourself. There is a perfectly sized hole on each side, This one always gets the most- it has been a hot spot for drilling over the years. There is a pile of them in there just over the last few days(mostly today). They always return to the previous nesting site. The key is to eradicate the queen, drones , and larvae if you do get an infestation, then plug the hole in the fall. Place a trap there, and the following Spring you will be amazed. eta- the holes are drilled on an upward angle, Once they enter, they go towards the light, which is down the bottom. Once in the bottle/jar they are done for. They struggle to exhaustion/fry in the sun, until death. It's glorious, for those who have seen the damage they can do.
  9. Carpenter bees are back. Anyone who has had issues, the traps work. I have been using them for several years now after some bad infestations, and then the woodpecker damage that follows. I have 8 hanging up around the house and deck. They Protect this (log) house!
  10. Pretty much verifies what we all knew would be the case by late winter. Every important index was in the wrong phase, and strongly so. ENSO was an ambiguous mess, but the location of tropical forcing was persistently unfavorable.
  11. @Weather Will Probably about time to retire the WB snow maps dude. Not happening in mid April.
  12. Mid 60s to low 70s with some sun at times looks good to me over the next 4-5 days. Some shower chances mixed in there but probably nothing significant until maybe Wednesday. Typical Spring weather.
  13. He really needs to take a break and get himself sorted.

    COVID-19 Talk

I saw something a couple days ago that 25-50% may exhibit no symptoms. I would have to go back and look at what study that came from- may have been a report based on 2 different ones. Given the lack of available/timely testing, and how highly contagious this virus is, it may end up that the majority of us will be exposed to it in the coming weeks/months, and those who exhibit no/very mild symptoms will simply never know they had it. The social distancing/use of masks, etc are the key to preventing the non-symptomatic from spreading it. Plenty of uncertainties with modeling(as we all know here). Just my unscientific, pragmatic thoughts.
  17. Looks like that meandering, perpetual coastal low will finally move east today. At least it weakened enough that the wind died down. It will probably still be mostly cloudy today. Tomorrow looks super nice.
  18. LOL I do remember that. Me and my bother watched that in reruns when we were kids. Only "soap opera" worth watching!
  19. Snakes on a Plane.. Zombies on a Train!
  20. Pretty intense. https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/train_to_busan
  21. Drinking a Hazy IPA and watching Train to Busan. Whats better than watching a zombie movie during our apocalyptic pandemic?

You and I are probably pretty close on the political spectrum. I agree Hogan has done a great job, and yes I think he is a moderate republican. I am not really affected at all by pollen, so I would be able to tell if something was going on. I know people that have terrible allergies and one symptom is a persistent (dry) cough. My mom is one of those people.

Yeah lets relax on the political stuff... So I woke up feeling a little rough this morning- headache, stomach was off, and ofc given the situation, the tendency is to think every symptom you get is the onset of the virus. I legit was getting stressed thinking about staying away from my parents, etc. I feel ok now, but I am going to carefully "monitor" myself today. I feel like a hypochondriac lol.
