  1. I was comparing the split to 2018 and it was similar in the sense that it funneled ample cold into the eastern US...as you know, some of these PV disruptions send all of the cold to the other side of the globe. The big NE snows not working out is more due to issues with the western ridge...nothing to do with the PV split.
  2. I think referring to the PV split as a phantom event because it didn't result in an east coast blizzard is pretty silly.
  3. What was phantom?? That 2018 event verified quite strongly....this past February wasn't a SSW. The PV split definitely occurred, but it was born of lower level processes and definitely induced a cold pattern.
  4. That is my hope for next year....I think that would be a bullish signal for next winter.
  5. That is true about him, but this particular claim has traction.
  6. The "bottom up" split earlier this month, on the 10th, certainly was a curveball that biased the month colder. But this would be more in line with my original expectation.
  7. Yes, I won't argue the point that its rare. Vast majority of cold winters for us are also snowy.
  8. Well, La nina was also weak....there has always been more variability amongst weaker events. 2008 and 2000 were both weaker la nina events...and cold. Extra tropical influences def. have more proxy in those instances.
  9. You don't need barbell....its ideal to mix it in to maxamize stength, but I'm strong enough.....on my best days I can incline the 105s for about 8...not doing that right now, though....more like 95s.
  10. Phil, I haven't done barbell bench press in over 20 years....I have a partially fused left wrist (since Jan 2001) and the surgeon told me I would never lift weights again (hang with 'em, doc), but the dumbells allow me greater range of motion and room for the supination that better positions me to be able to lift heavily with my condition.
  11. I have a heavy 3-day body part split for my lifting that includes ample core work/stretching for about 30 minutes as a warmup....do abs once a week after legs, too, and then believe it or not, the squats are temendous for that core stability and strength that act as a nice primer to finish off with abs. Its no coincidence that I don't have back issues at 44.
  12. I'm developing some chinks in the armor here in my mid 40s.....left shoulder is a bit iffy, as I had a small tear in the rorator cuff a couple of years ago that I just let heal....now I'm starting to get some "areas" in my knees....nothing severe, but enough to that I am a bit conscious of certain movements these days. Doesn't affect my squat or anything yet, since I wrap my knees. None of this impairs my heavy lifts yet. Back is still perfect, save for some occasional, mild inflamation down low.
  13. It was very consistently cold, but just nothing extreme.
  14. Yea, I think when the better maps are available in a couple of weeks, it will be a bit larger of an anomaly.
  15. Vast majority of the globe is warm....no deabating that.
  16. Its a bit colder vs 1991-2020 climo across SNE, but I'm suprised....thought it was colder.
  17. No, they haven't...at least not by 1991-2020 standards.
  18. Oh yea....I'm sure we'll have a stiff NE breeze delivering a steady supply of ass-mist for the marathon, etc.....bank on that.
