Carvers Gap
Made it to 37 this morning so far which is again below guidance. I suspect patchy frost is in the area, but cannot confirm that yet. The GFS and RGEM are the only models which are getting close to projected night time lows. The GFS has Friday morning as 34-35 for temps. No other model has it. Good test coming up again.

Yeah going to be a stout cold front again this week after some great beneficial rainfall.
Carvers Gap
My partly cloudy has turned into unexpected rainfall. Not a lot but will take it. @Met1985, definitely looks like another strong front. This will delay my garden by about a week. I sure didn't see that coming after weeks of temps in the low to upper 80s. What a flip! 5
John1122
It was 38 here this morning on a forecast low of 45.

Ill take it.

Some thunder and Lightning as well.
John1122
We've had some rain last night and today but it's not been nearly as steady as south of here. Have recorded around .48. Looks like about double that around 40 and south.
nrgjeff
Latest drought monitor is out. Chipping away at the extreme drought in Middle and West Tenn. Rainfall tally ended Tuesday so East doesn't have what just fell. I figure North Mississippi improved too. We have another week or so of a somewhat active pattern. Then it wants to shift back to the Midwest - which could still clip the Mid-South. East Tennessee needs more help before that shift. Some mid-range guidance has rain chances again in the 11-15 day period, so the week of May 18. Models try to bring one more trough through the Great Lakes that period. We'll see. Climo is gonna start favoring the Plains in late May.
Carvers Gap
More patchy frost tonight over the northern valley into SW VA. This is getting old fast(covering up stuff)! These temps have been steadily going in reverse since those mid-80s summertime, bluebird days a few weeks ago! 57F at TRI right now. Feels like February.

Matthew70
Drought brings forth more drought. Rain chances are diminishing for Sunday. Then looks like an extended dry period. With summer on the doorstep. There is going to be a lot of burn bans. I would not be surprised if this drought continues to worsen that the 4th fireworks will be cancelled. We won't be mowing yards much longer. I hate brown summers & go right into more brown during fall & winter. Hopefully what looks to be dry turns into wet.
John1122
Yep. The predicted rainfall has basically crashed out now. If we get a tenth that will be lucky with how most model runs look at this point. At some point, el nino should take hold and rain should return.
Matthew70
We got 1/2” last night. That’s better than nothing. Just enough to keep everything slightly green & surviving.

John1122
38 this morning. Probably the last really chilly morning. Looks like summer arrives this weekend.
Carvers Gap
Looks like the final risk for frost is Friday morning with lows in the upper 30s in NE TN and SW VA. Point and click forecasts are a little warmer than current modeling. Beware. After that, temps warm rapidly and temporarily back to late summer levels this weekend. Carvers Gap
The NBM has lows over TRI at 41 tonight. The 6z GFS and 6z 3k NAM both have lows in the mid to upper 30s. I probably won't cover my stuff tonight, but am waiting until tomorrow to plant the rest of my warm weather plants. This is the latest I have planted those in a long time. That is ironic given how warm it is has already been this spring. This last series of cold shots were a doozy. Spring is surely full of wild swings and April/May sure have lived up to that!!!! John1122
The 30-40 percent rain chances for the weekend disappeared and the 40-50 percent Monday forecast was a dud here with nothing. It's barely even thundered this spring. Crazy stuff.
Jed33
37° this morning at the house with patches of frost around! I knew when it was already 45 by 11 last night that it was probably going to be in the 30’s this morning. The wind died completely down and the dry airmass did the rest. This is just 2 days shy of the latest frost I’ve ever seen, and that was years ago. Really impressed with the cold this month, it’s been something else!
Carvers Gap
It looks like the airport has dipped to 32F. That is a big time bust from my point and click which was 40-41! I went out and covered my stuff last night thankfully. The GFS and NAM have been kicking butt and taking names w/ low temps. That should be the last time we hit freezing until next fall - famous last words though!

Carvers Gap
That should break the record low at TRI by three degrees. The old record was 35. That is the fourth latest freeze in TRI history.
Carvers Gap
TRI's records/normals' listed date for May 3rd reads 9999 for the record low. But it should also be a record low. That makes two record lows for the month. 90s on tap for Sunday! Whiplash weather! IMHO this is just a continuation of the winter pattern which had HUGE swings. I think we head into a more stable, warm pattern from this point forward. I think.
Carvers Gap
Looks like frost on the rooftops this morning, even in parts of Kingsport. We only missed the all-time record low by two degrees at the airport.
