GBOVolz
You can also get deicer in an aerosol can. I have a couple of them and it’s OK if it gets on your paint of your vehicle. Also, the deicer windshield washer fluid works well and is very handy in the winter at any time..

Great time to own an electric vehicle. On a full charge in cabin mode you could run toasty 75-80 degree cabin for 4-5 days non-stop.

Absolute worst case, I can recharge my Jackery boxes from the car.
Save the itchy algae!
So every model has central valley with. 25 to. 50 ice but still no updated advisory. Rain with freezing temperatures is often not freezing rain. It has to be very light rainfall to accrete. The Central Valley is not particularly prone to freezing rain. What you’re seeing as freezing rain on models is likely rain. There can and maybe will be some glazing but not nearly to the potential shown on some models.
fountainguy97
Our cooking and heat source is propane. I've got a small briefcase inverter generator for small stuff. Can even run a crockpot off it. if we were out of power for days we would probably go pool our resources with some local friends.

I put the backseat down and have a car mattress in mine ready to go if the house cools. I expect to lose about 20% of battery a day if I do have to get in it.
Save the itchy algae!
One thing that will help with Ice is the current warm ground temps. I have seen heavy rain falling into temps in the low 20s and none of the ice accumulating on the roads. I remember being shocked at how it just refused to build up where the tires of cars made contact with the road. Of course, bridges and overpasses had patches, Because they had not been frozen before the onset of the freezing rain the falling precipitation and action of the tires friction kept the roads free of ice. This may help us in the East Tennessee Valley. NOT SAYING IT WILL NOT BE DANGEROUS BUT IT MAY HELP.Even up north where ground temps aren’t an issue it will rain in the low 20’s if the rates are moderate. Speaking from experience after living in the Great Plains. It’ll be a black ice machine after the storm is over but ice accretion is threading a needle. Save the itchy algae!
The ideal environment for freezing rain accretion is just below freezing temperatures at the surface and a mist or very light rain falling into a gentle steady breeze to aid droplet particulation. I’m not sure if that’s an actual word the point being the bigger the droplet the less likely it will stick. Too much breeze and the water wont stick and has drying function, as does too low of a temperature to the moisture content. The fly in the ointment is already fallen sleet/snow at lower temperatures as it can supercool rain falling in lower temps and immediately form concrete. But heavier rain can and will overcome that, especially over a long duration.

TellicoWx
Really need these HiRes CAMs to get in range. While Globals are great at overall setup over the valley, their resolution is just not sharp enough during ice setups due to the million microclimates in the valley. While the QPF output on the hrrr may not be close to accurate, can definitely get more detailed view of where the cold is being trapped.

GBOVolz
Showers may get COLD lolYou are the man… I forgot about hot water. But I’ve got tankless gas water heaters and I can run them off my vehicle’s converter. The circulating pump pulls the most amps on my tankless system and it’s only about a half to 3/4 of an amp..

GBOVolz
That's why I'm glad I have a gas water heater. I remember in 1994 that the shower was the only place you could get warm. I have a tankless heater but when I changed out my upright water heater to the tankless, I kept the old water heater and used it as a holding tank. So I pump hot water into the holding tank from my tankless water heaters, and when I need hot water, the circulating pump comes on and pumps the hot water out of the holding tanks..
Weatheriscool
It looks to me like even in the Middle TN area that things will warm enough to go to rain on Sunday with very little wrap around anything, which is good I guess, we need the moisture, would have liked to have had snowcover on the landscaping for the real cold stuff but what can you do?
