I didn’t think it started until the 6z and fully by 12z. My brain is running on 2 hours of sleep and I just got back from my cae round trips and clocking into work so I’m not totally sure

I was assuming the 0Z GFS got the data and that’s why it held serve. While the other models shit the bed.

ukmet was horrible, plowed thru wedge and was all rain. Canadian held the CAD in the favored areas, but was 60s in central GA

You as well. I guess the whole foothill crowd. The hype was so real Sunday-Tuesday. Everything was going right. Operational models. Ensembles. Slight fluctuations but it was locked in.

Boys - The Upstate of SC, especially I-85 in Spartanburg, has seen ZILCH in years!  Seeing that mid-morning GFS run was one for the ages, 19 inches of snow (hahahahaha).  But there is a big difference between digital snow and real snow.  We haven't even SNIFFED a flake and won't during this system either - Praying for 6 inches of sleet now!

Jan 2022? That’s the last one for most of us. Guess a few of us have seen a flake or a dusting here or there. But I know it’s tough rn living in the upstate or lower elevations of wnc

I wasn’t joking when I said that I had 02 flashbacks after that first insane run. That unfortunately hasn’t changed much for what I’m expecting for MBY, but I do believe that the sleet potential will be much higher than what is currently shown for a lot of people

This is a rant and whining, so if you don’t want to read it, that’s fine, ignore and press onward but I just have to get it off my chest. 
 

Is it ever going to snow a warning criteria amount here again? How long do we have to wait? 5 more? 10 more? 15 more years? I really wonder. We can’t do one damn thing right. For years we’ve watched suppression be the reason we’ve missed and now in crunch time we’re going to get all of the amplitude we possibly need. We literally are allergic to winning. Go ahead and crack open the salt container for when we see a suppressed storm in a few weeks so Charleston can score again. I hate this sport sometimes.

Glad I got that generator. Folks we are in big trouble in the foothills. We will have some of the coldest temperatures and the CAD will not erode easy. If sleet doesn't save us, we are staring down the barrel of the worst ice storm in at least 50 years. 

 

I'm going to do some research later on ice storms to see what I can find. December 2002 was mostly sleet/snow for us.

I'm gutted this morning, too, like the rest of you. It makes me wonder why I even bother with this hobby. I have repeatedly told people it cannot snow anymore in Hickory, and I've been right for the past five years. I actually gave a bit of a positive forecast to several friends/family over the past two days, indicating that this time it finally looked likely we would get some snow. I should never have changed my message, it appears. It's amazing how invested I allow myself to get in this.

I do like winter weather, all types, so a mega sleet storm would be something pretty cool to see, but being buried in an inch-plus coating of ice from freezing rain doesn't sound nearly as fun.

I also get Feb 96 vibes from this especially with the extreme cold after. I'll never shake the feeling of listening to trees pop for days around the house 9 days without power and when it came back on the mattresses in the house and mom's Murphy Oil was frozen.
