BooneWX
GFS pops a low and light wintry precip for Sunday into Monday. We get neutral tilt on the Alabama/Georgia line this run. Very very different look in a good way for 12z.
BooneWX
Man that GFS run….. if we take a tick or two further southwest and it would’ve been an absolute weenie run. It looked similar to last night’s Ukie. 1

Energy diving over the plains, stalls out and stretches, lobe breaks off and dives south. Not something you see too often. The fast flow and dominant Northern stream limits the ceiling on this event, but if everything goes just right it's a good set up for the best kind of storm: cold temps, heavy snow
NorthHillsWx
It’s amazing how just subtle digs south and west have outsized impacts with regards to the second system. That GFS run was so close to a decent system
olafminesaw
Model spread six days out is pretty wild. Basically there's two camps, energy breaks free from primarily trough (GFS, ICON, UKMET) and everything else that keeps the upper level energy consolidated to our North

BornAgain13
UK with another solid run. Why is it doing this to us? Lol

wncsnow
The weekend is definitely looking more interesting. That was still a potent shrtwave on the UK. Euro should be interesting
gamecockinupstateSC
UKMET with two consecutive runs showing hit. Output looks good. We hug!
BooneWX
Both are good for different reasons but the key being they’re hilariously different at h5 with how they handle the energy (gfs and Ukie)
BooneWX
Euro run will be interesting. Does it favor one look over the other or will it have its own island real estate as well?
olafminesaw
I think we need to resolve this cluster-**** before we can even begin to resolve the evolution of our potential Sunday system

BooneWX
Euro is further west from 0z on the second system at least through 90hrs. Energy dropping in from Montana to the plains.
BooneWX
This is going to be another step in the right direction. It’s not enough, but it went towards other guidance.

BornAgain13
The Euro does do something... it brings the COLD weather for sure.
BornAgain13
12z EURO does bring a Winter Storm around the 24th/25th time frame but that's way out there.
olafminesaw
My main takeaway from the Euro is it does little to add clarity to the Sunday storm. It, the GFS and the UKMET all look way different from each other. Again, once we get to around mid-week we should get a clearer picture with all the energy flying around
WinstonSalemArlington
Verbatim, Euro has a brutal cold wave that would make December’s cold look like springtime

BornAgain13
1 thing is for sure y'all, the cold is coming!! Thats what we need in place first and then let's get that southern stream active. Im pretty optimistic about the rest of Jan and going into February. Even if we dont score this week.
wncsnow
With the cold nearby for weeks, surely some of us will score eventually, even if its a minor event

Not super optimistic on Sunday for anything significant with the way the first system trended.
BooneWX
15 minutes ago, wncsnow said: Ensembles are trending colder too Not sure this is a good thing imo. If we don’t get a 50/50 low or some blocking established, it’s going to be tough sledding with a lot of northern stream energy and little to slow it down and give it time to dig.
