Pittsburgh/Western PA WINTER ‘25/‘26

Let’s kick this off right. Would be nice to get on the board early. Looking good for a solid little event tonight.

Tomorrow looks like a classic southern slider with just enough northern stream interaction to get us 2-3" and keep the rain at bay, except for those in the southernmost counties, of course.  The warm tongue is undefeated.

Not likely to find any big events in this pattern, but the next couple weeks look okay for those old-timey Alberta Clippers.  I'm sure we'll take any snow while we can get it.

It should make things look festive around these parts until the (perhaps brief) Christmas warmup.

Very 2020 Covid-year like with the fast start to December. Not saying to expect as much as fell on December 1, 2020, but certainly a positive development.

I'm here for some clippers, get them to dive underneath us then reinforce NW flow behind them over the warm lakes and you are looking at almost daily shots of snow.

Things still on track. Surfaces should be plenty cold and very early morning timing will maximize accumulations. Im still thinking 2-4, with maybe a 5 lollipop if somewhere manages to maxmize ratios and banding, but overall progressive nature is going to limit that potential.

Will be fun to kick off the season!

Most models are showing about a 3” snowfall for the Pittsburgh area, which looks about correct.

According to reports out of Kansas City forecasts have bust low. They received more snow than forecasted in some areas fwiw.

They are actually bringing up the possibility for rain mixing in for some areas south and east of here. Hoping that stays where it's at. If you look on the maps, it shows those areas with a little less snow.

That's right, I forgot you live down that way. Move back to Bethel Park just for tonight to get away from that mixing. Lol Yeah, hopefully your elevation keeps the mix away. Would be nice if we could all see 3 or 4 inches out of this one.

Absolutely-a nice covering in the morning to set the season off! Try to enjoy it now until pattern looks to change around the 17th or so…?

About 2” here so far. Very expansive precio shield. Too bad it’s zipping along. Would have been nice with this track to have closed off.

i always loved “daybreak snow” where you can start to see it snowing without lights. Im going to go enjoy that in a bit.

Looks like the mixing is staying south of the border. Nice event indeed to start the season.

Eyeballing 2-3 on the deck rail. Coming down at a moderate rate at the moment.

Solid 3” in Cranberry. Looks like some heavier banding a possibility before the back end comes through.

Heaviest snow so far now. I’m sure we will see some 4”+ reports in the area. Nice “low stress event” - lol. Steady models, modest upside,  and performed on higher side of expected range.

Just under 5” here.

Measured a good 3, probably end with around 3.25ish, that last band sorta dissipated before it really moved through. Looks like areas just the NW managed a little better based on radar and reports. All in all this one played out exactly as expected based on models and NWS forecast. A+
