Yeah snowing nicely here. Big flakes,  very windy and very cold with windchills in the teens.

When I lived up there, days like today were my favorite. Steady flow is fun but these are basically thunderstorms. Just peaked at the blowing rock cam and the height on those cloud tops would make you think it’s June if you didn’t know better.

...SNOW AND GUSTY WINDS ACROSS THE NORTH CAROLINA MOUNTAINS
THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON...

Reports of light to moderate snow with gusty winds are coming out
of the North Carolina mountains. Snow will continue to fall
through the early afternoon hours with wind gusts of 20-30 mph,
and locally stronger gusts at higher elevations. A light dusting
of snow is possible, with up to an inch at the highest peaks.

Same here. My years in Boone had multiple “big events” but I loved the over performing NWFS events the most. Real boom or bust.

Only flurries here so far. Big storms last night. So I am going to trust that old lore.

I am seeing a lot of positive trends in regards of the various computer schemes for the week ahead and even in the day 10 range. I'm seeing some potential for the Gulf upcoming as it is still very warm and capable of spinning up low pressure particularly along the NW and Central Gulf Coast. There is a decent stream of moisture from the Pacific heading our way along the Sub Tropical Jet. I'll be watching the Gulf carefully the next several days carefully.

A northwest flow snow event is looking increasingly likely to impact
the North Carolina mountains Wednesday evening through Thursday.
Snow accumulations will be heaviest above 3500 ft near the TN border.
Gusty winds and dangerous wind chills will be possible Thursday
night into Friday morning in the northern mountains.

Wound up with an inch on the nose here from the convective showers this afternoon. Luckily not much sun to melt it in between downpours.

Yeah 18z looked good again for us. The adjustments are not done though but hopefully we see more continuity.

Temperature has just dropped off the cliff.  Down to 22 degrees already.

Models aren't digging the vort like yesterday so this isn't a long duration event anymore. Totals are cut way back. The one good thing I see is that we may see severe small flow events the next 10 days.

Also current temp and low of 14 degrees.

18 for my low this morning. Still looking like and Advisory event Wednesday night and Thursday morning. I noticed the NAM models where a bit juicier overnight at the end of their runs. Next weekend is still worth monitoring. It's going to be very cold late this work week with windchill indices at or below zero!
