Had a high today of 69 at 1:40 am. Daytime high was only 62. Love days like this.

Nearly 3 inches of rain here in my backyard today from that quasi-stationary cell earlier and then a second round 30 mins later. Still constant thunder and lightning outside but majority of the activity is to the south now. Just got back in my hometown today from Anchorage, Alaska so that was quite the change.

I had several hours of mainly light rain today (5/26).

Edit: I estimate 0.2” for 5/26 and 2 day (5/25-6) total of ~2.2”.

Low of 61, high of 72. Humidity definitely increased today. .18" in the bucket so far at 7:45 pm.

A steady all day soaking rain. 1.13” in the bucket so far with some heavier returns set to move in overnight. Currently at 63.5 which is also the high so far as we are warming up into the night. Raw day with mostly 50’s and rain. Another great soaker before the peak of summer

Despite cloudy skies dominating the day, KSAV still had a near normal high of 87. This along with dewpoints ~74 much of the day made it feel quite sticky. 

We’ve had rain from thunderstorms the last 2 hrs . KSAV received nearly 1”.

KSAV hasn’t had a high below 84 for the last two weeks! The month has averaged +3 for the mean temp. Despite a very wet month, the avg high there so far this month has been 87! This is very different from the significantly cooler northern SE!

Yesterday’s high of 57 at Greensboro was a record low maximum

We’re about to get blasted by a strong thunderstorm just to the S moving NE. Winds are gusting.

Edit: rain ended up surprisingly light considering how the radar had looked on approach though . It semi-petered out as it got here though I was on the NW corner. Total <0.1”. But most of the nearby islands appeared to get a decent hit.

 May has been like a summer month here.

Yeah we saw that one slide just south of us.  Got some good thunder out of it though.

And yes, the past couple weeks have been very summer-like, if a little cooler than actual summer.

The Cocorahs map confirms what you and I saw on the radar with a sharp cutoff of solid rainfall (~1”) just to our south in southern Chatham to the islands caused by that storm skirting us to the S on its NE trek:

Storms between Carthage and southern pines look pretty nasty. Actually some decent rotation. Not a high severe risk day but I’d watch those cells

Okay, that was an impressive rain. 2.82 inches in about 90 minutes. Started to rush so hard it was overtopping the big yard drain I put in last fall so I pulled the grate and created a 3.5 square foot hole to a 12 inch culvert. That did it. . Cool whirlpool effect that my daughter enjoyed.

Low of 58, high of 80. Severe warned line of storms broke apart 10 miles from me and the dying line only dropped .07" but did drop the temp from 75 to 62 in less than 30 minutes.

0.13" today for a workman like 1.28" for the week and a workman-like 4.37" for the month.  Got rain on 5 of 7 says this week but mostly just crumbs.

 My place ended up with a way wetter than normal ~8.7” of rainfall this month. The airport (KSAV) got 10.14”, making it the 3rd wettest May on record back to the 1870s! It was an overall warm month (~+3).

 This evening I took the first walk outside in quite awhile. It was very pleasant for May 31st with dewpoints down to 58 (near the lowest of the month?), temperatures in the low 70s, and a light breeze. Tomorrow should be similarly dry though temps will be 3-4 higher. So, I hope to get another walk in.
