Hoosier
Not a big event but looks like some severe threat in the Ohio Valley in the form of hail/damaging winds. CAPE/shear would suggest possible isolated significant hail. SREF tor probs highlighting the area around the Ohio River. However, I see at least a couple problems with a tornado threat...1) low level flow looks to be substantially veered except in a narrow area right on the front and 2) low level flow is fairly weak (stronger farther north away from the better instability). I guess a spinup couldn't be ruled out.
IWXwx
It looks like there will be daily "minor" threats this week, gravitating from Texas today to our subforum's area by midweek. Hoosier, would it be safe to say that the main spinup threat would be a discrete cell forming right on the front, possibly just ahead of an MCS? ilstormchaser
I have been watching the ruc and hrrr this morning and the area near St.Louis and points eastward near I-70 appear to have the potential for a few supercells and perhaps and isolated weak brief tornado. 3000 cape, li's near -8, and southerly surface winds (maybe even se near the warm front) should be just enough for a few supercells for a while across that area. 850 mb winds are lacking, however with 3000 cape and that warm front near by things should pop. The hrrr attm is showing storms developing near St. Louis around 4 pm. Am thinking that the area will be enhanced to a 5% tornado risk on the next SPC outlook. Indystorm
Severe warning for hail in St. Louis area. Hail seems to be the main threat but the discussion does stress a need to watch the boundary eastward in Illinois for backing winds. Golf ball size hail reported on east side of Wentzville.
