Was caught in this storm near Columbus yesterday, we had 1" of ice on I-70 and we counted 14 accidents and saw two happen. One was very disturbing near Zanesville we witnessed, an SUV had spun around in the passing lane and a tractor trailer looked as if it ran over top of it as it could'nt stop. The ambulance approached the scene with lights off and there was massive amounts of blood all over the crash scene and on the windshield indicating the occupant(s) were all dead. So be careful out there on highways with ice and sleet, drive slow, turn on your hazards and don't be in a rush. I bet you the people yesterday had no idea Sunday February 20th was going to be his\her last day.

Wow, that would be a terrible thing to witness, let alone be a victim of or a family member of one of those victims. When it's bad out just stay home if you can help it and as you mentioned, if you have to be out use as much caution as possible. I always say, I'm more afraid of the other drivers when the roads are bad than the actual conditions of the road.

Hell yeah, I always get nervous when I see other drivers start to panic, and wail on the brakes.

The bad winter drivers always brake too hard.

The bad winter drivers always brake too hard.

I was in Robinson Twp. yesterday catching the Pens game at the All Star Sports Bar & Grill with my wife and in-laws. The snow started up while we were there and the roads started getting quite slick as we left. My wife and I were coming home on I79 southbound and we got caught in some major traffic. There was debris everywhere and we saw a minivan totaled off on the shoulder. Hopefully, that person or people were OK. I don't know if that was the only vehicle involved or not but it didn't look good. People tend to drive way to fast on that highway, and in those conditions, you have to be extra careful, especially on an interstate with people going at high rates of speed!

I think this event has the potential to catch a majority of Joe Q public off guard as very little talk of wintry precip was in the media at least as of last night or this morning. Add to that the change over is happening sooner than initially though as well. 18z NAM still shows at least .5 - .6 falling as frozen and most of that in a 6-8 hour period if I am reading right.

Absoulutely pouring here in cranberry....I'm def sticking with my 4-7 call, though I think it will be on the higher end.

I really do think this is warning criteria.

The NWS has made many changes already today. They went from 1-3 this morning, to 2-5 and a WWA, to 3-6 and a WWA. Wouldn't be surprised if the next step is a WSW. Still waiting on the changeover here.

all snow here in latrobe

I love how the mix line curves up over top of where I'm at! lol Gotta love being a snow guy living in Bethel Park. My changeover will be later, but I'm also hoping I'll see some of the heavier snow later once it changes over, since I'm a little closer to the low moving by us to the south. I'm hoping for that anyway. We'll see.

What is warning criteria, I always forget, is it 6+ in 12 hours or 8+ in 24 hours? If so, we might get pretty close to the 6+ in 12 hours I think especially if the 18z NAM is right on qpf.

Drive home should be fun. I will be heading North so should see the change over as I go if it doesn't make it to me before I leave. :snowman:
