  1. Sometimes when I think about all the things that have to go right, I’m amazed it ever snows here at all. But even though we’re on the sidelines for snow with this event, the next 36-48 hours are still going to be pretty wild.
  2. I was out running some errands this evening and saw a hazy moon through the high clouds…a “snow moon”, I thought. If this were 100 years ago, a time before wx models and satellites, I’d be convinced a snow storm was on the way given the temps.
  3. Admittedly I know nothing about the relationship between eruptions and our local climate but I remember someone saying that tropical eruptions could have negative impacts on our winters. For instance, there’s some thought that the Pinatubo eruption in 1991 was a factor in our crap winters of the early 90’s. We benefit more from eruptions at higher latitudes, such as Alaska or Iceland. Again, not saying any of this if fact. Just passing along what I read. Hopefully someone with knowledge on the subject can chime in.
  4. I saw that…so cool! And from an underwater volcano no less. The sat pics were incredible. Couldn’t help but wonder if there were any ships in the area at the time.
  5. Good! I never got the chance to say it on Tuesday because our snow chances went down the drain so fast, but (and say it with me)… Hate being in the bullseye a week out.
  6. No kidding! I recently had a conversation with someone about that. I write so slow now because I actually have to think about making the letters.
  7. Here's hoping tsunami data gets ingested into 18Z models and we get that 250 mile shift east
  8. Interesting because my bday is September. Of course that meant some of my gifts were back-to-school items. “Oh wow, a protractor…awesome!!”
  9. Fall is my favorite for all the reasons Birds listed above. Plus you can convince yourself a good winter is on the way regardless of all the long range outlooks. I'll rank winter #2, but mainly because of snow. I really don't care for cold, I just tolerate it because it's an ingredient for snow. Kind of a toss up for #3, but I'll say summer even though it features my least favorite weather. But in the back of my mind, I know fall is the next season. I used to love spring as a kid. Probably because more daylight meant I could stay out later to play and the last day of school was on the horizon. But it seems our springs today are cold and wet (mud season). And it means I have to get my lazy butt back outside to do yard work. Oh yeah, and 4 months of hazy, hot and humid weather are on the way.
  10. I like being able to wash jeans and line dry them in 30 minutes—as opposed to the two weeks it takes in summer. 13F/DP -7F
  11. And on Monday, all we wanted was a 300 mile shift west
  12. Here’s what the 18z GFS will get right: very little front end frozen. Here’s what the 18z GFS will get wrong: the idea there will be wrap-around frozen. Oh well, the weekend is here. Time to drink.
  13. I know At least we were out of this thing before we were ever in it. Nothing worse than getting the rug pulled out from under you in the final 24hrs.
  14. Hopefully we can thump for 2-3 hours, that’s all we have left to cling to.
  15. Weenie handbook rule #11: When all else fails, go with "The storm will manufacture it's own cold air". But seriously, amazing how locked in the models have been on the overall track since Wednesday.
  16. Wondering if we can score a hat trick: WWA? Flood watch? Wind advisory?
  17. We're certainly black sheep. I'm in a zoom call and everyone is happy that we're getting rain and not snow.
  18. Goldilocks winter so far. First storm too south, second storm too Miller B-ish, this one too west. 35F
  19. Winter 2021-22 highlights so far… -The Festivus miracle -LV guy getting the boot -It not being 70F on Christmas -3” of fluff from the Middle Finger storm -And the 6 hours Tuesday afternoon when I thought Redsky’s Hoochie Mama blizzard might be a thing
  20. Looking at the 84hr NAM (yeah yeah, I know), I 'm wondering if this will be more a severe wx threat than a winter storm threat
  21. More than 72 hours to go...just a few more ticks east, please. We'll still taint, just hoping to maximize frozen.
  22. I want to say Super Bowl night 2000 DC got slammed and we were rain after a little front end frozen. Don't know that I'd call it "normal" but it's happened.
  23. I'll sign up for that. Reminds me of those 70's storms where we'd get a front end thump, then flip to rain. Anything that survived froze like a rock as the arctic air poured in on the backside.
  24. Wow, look at those temps…winter canceled!
  25. Ha! You read my mind but I wasn't going to say it cause I didn't want to come across as being a Deb. But yeah, quite a dramatic shift in 12 hours. But it's across most of the guidance in some form or another, not just one model suite, so I'm not sure what to make of it. Just going to enjoy it for now.
