Despite the looming pinwheel heat dome of death’s arrival, it’s actually an extremely nice morning out right now!

It’s always at least 5 degrees warmer in the city due to UHI. I was looking at private station reports Friday and overnight lows averaged 6-8 degrees warmer in DC compared to where I’m at, about 10 miles southwest of DC.

Curious if there’s any energy grid concerns. .

Came to my cabin for the night. This is looking back east about 80-90 miles from DC. Can see the storm clouds. .

Lower level clouds - guesstimating at about 1000 feet visually - are ripping out of the south west .

That line near Charlottesville/Lynchburg looks like it’s bowing out. .

A couple times in the 12 years I’ve been on DC. Sometime in the last few years actually had a few weeks of highs in the 70s.

Pretty crazy lightning and thunder show the last hour in the Alexandria Fort Belver area .

I didn’t know there was a whole thread! I was positing in DISCOBS. I left Alexandria at 11 pm this night and drove nearly 250 miles round trip. Weather was actually worse in Shenandoah from 1-4 am. It wasn’t until on my way home passing back over the blue ridge that the skies cleared and I saw the aurora over Leesburg.

I walk from DC to DCA metro these days to get some steps in after work before heading to new home in Alexandria. I enjoy the views along the Mount Vernon Trail. .

I remember watching radar. I think the funnel cloud over the capitol is what was tracked near Fort Meade later! .

Man. Lots of thunder and lightning last night with two rounds of heavy rain. And hail this morning. .

Even if I strike out, I have to try. This is at once or twice in a lifetime thing certainly one generation thing. .

That’s it. The imagery in Miami is driving me mad. I’m getting out of bed and driving west I hopes of clouds breaks. .
