  1. 2 inches of rain here since midnight, just about all of it in the last few hours, winds have picked up some gusting to 30mph.
  2. My wind is shifting from east to NNE , so I would say the storm has been SSW of me and is now more south .
  3. Picked up .70 inch of rain in 20 minutes, still heavy. Winds gusty but not real strong, gusting to 26mph.
  4. Got about a 1/2 inch of rain in 15 minutes. Still raining fairly hard.
  5. Wow, only 84 here but very oppressive
  6. Most of the bad weather with this storm is well to the north and east. So I would think our worst weather will happen when the center of Elsa is over the Delmarva area into southern New Jersey.
  7. I think hype and creating news stories plays a much bigger role today than it has in the past. Also being overly cautious probably plays a part.
  8. This storm has spent a good part of its life at or above 1000 low. I think the lowest it ever got was the low to mid 990s.
  9. This according to NHC. Rawinsonde data and GOES-16 RGB airmass imagery show an upper-level shortwave trough over the southeastern United States to the west of Elsa, and the global models forecast this system to follow the cyclone northeastward and take on a negative tilt. This should result in increasing upper-level divergence over Elsa, which in turn should lead to some strengthening as the storm moves near or over the east coast of the United States. The 00Z ECMWF model is not as bullish on intensification as its previous run, but it and the 00Z UKMET still call for strengthening, and even the weaker GFS forecasts the favorable upper-air pattern. Based on this, the new intensity forecast shows a little more strengthening than the previous forecast.
  10. 1954 Hurricane Carol gave Brookhaven National Labs on Long Island a wind gust of 125mph. Six years later the same location had their lowest barometric pressure of 28.37 from Hurricane Donna. The 1950s into the early 60s was the worst stretch of bad hurricanes in our area.
  11. As of 5pm Elsa was reported to have 45mph. sustained winds but no recording stations had reports of sustained tropical storm force winds.
  12. .21 inch of rain and wind gust to 35. Pretty much a typical summer time thunder storm.
  13. If greenery is keeping Central Park a few degrees cooler in the day, it may also be keeping it a few degrees warmer at night. Also, does anyone know where Newark has its temperature sensor located and are there pictures.
  14. The rain looks to be leaving the Long Island area but it is increasing and pivoting south thru Ny state and lots of it in eastern Pa.
  15. Raining all day here, .53 so far. I have gotten 1.75 inches in the past 3 days.
  16. .18 inch of rain here so far this morning and it looks like rain most of the day.
  17. .15 inch of rain here so far this morning and it looks like it will be raining most of the day.
  18. Looks like a good amount of rain moving generally north off the ocean. Looks like my area in for some decent rains starting soon. Meanwhile back to cool below normal temps. 62 degrees
