  1. The weather is really changing here. Wind is quite breezy coming in from the southeast off the ocean. Clouds moving in from the ocean and temp down to 69. Meanwhile heavy rain just to my north and west. Don't know if it will ever get here.
  2. Looks like the latest GFS has a much weaker tropical system near Florida. Not really a surprise, very early for hurricanes still. Plus the speed it is moving at makes it hard to intensify and then add on any land interaction.
  3. 1.21 inches of rain here between yesterday and today. Showers on and off here this morning, much needed rain.
  4. Finally some decent rain here, over a half inch and still raining
  5. It looks like the NWS has backed off some on the total rainfall over the next few days, for my area. They also seem to be getting deeper into the weekend with the rain. Hopefully the 4th stays dry, so far that is the forecast.
  6. Temperature has dropped to the mid 70s but still feels uncomfortable. So far only .08 inch of rain today.
  7. The problem to me is not only the shorties but it appears the naming of storms now includes storms that don't meet past criteria, such as tropical vs, sub tropical characteristics. I have no problem naming sub tropical storms, just make sure there is an asterisk when making comparisons. For example, I heard this May with the naming of Ana, the record trend of tropical systems in May continues, I believe 5 yrs in a row. I know Ana never would have been named in the past, and I wonder how many of the other 4 would not have been.
  8. Just like comparing temperature numbers in a fair way, we really have to consider the same when it comes to tropical storms. Comparing the amount we get now to the past is not the proper way to do it when you consider we now count sub tropical as tropical. We are now up to the 5th storm but in past record keeping we would probably be on the first or second.
  9. Yea I was thinking about that when I wrote about the temperature not being all that much above normal. It definitely is something to consider when comparing numbers to the past. I'm not sure how much of a difference the last 10 years has made in the 30 year average but I'm sure it is up at least a few tenths of a degree. Another thing I was bringing out is how all the stations were basically up a degree or 2 but Newark was up quite a bit more at 3.5.
  10. As hot as it was at times in June, the average temp was only between 1 and 2.3 degrees above normal at Bridgeport, Islip, Kennedy, Laguardia and Central Park. Then you have Newark, that was 3.5 degrees above normal.
  11. JFK in the water and Newark on the tarmac.
  12. Another miss with the rain, only .06 of an inch. I hope we can get something to speak of, tomorrow. We need rain.
  13. Seems like showers are starting to pop up all over the island.
  14. Some storms just west of the city. If they hold together maybe the lower half of the Island can get some storms and rain a little later.
  15. Fairly strong northerly winds here and a few rain drops. I think the wind is out flow from the storm about 5 miles to my north. They seem to be heading almost due east across the upper part of the Island.
  16. Went down to Jones Beach this evening. You would never know we are in a heat wave down there. Some people actually had on long sleeve shirts. Meanwhile lots of lightning to my north.
  17. Looks like the up and down temps continue. This weekend highs look to be some 5-10 degrees below normal. 93.3 high here today.
  18. Local temp readings can be so subject to where exactly they are located. I can move mine 5 ft. away and get a 1 degree lower reading or higher reading.
  19. Sea breeze kicking in here
  20. Noontime temps. Central Park 94 LaGuardia 95 White Plains 90 Farmingdale 89 Newark 98
  21. Must be happy in Seattle, only 64 degrees. Meanwhile up to 92.2 here
  22. I glanced thru it but it probably will need more time and accurate reporting to see if it is a real improvement
  23. At 10pm still 91 degrees at Newark.
  24. Still 93 at Newark and 90 in Manhattan. Would not want to be in the cities with no AC tonight.
