I would say on average about 6 inches of snowpack still here. Of course it varies from a few inches to maybe 8-10

Yes winters have definitely changed. Milder and wetter and more snow thanks mostly to large snowfalls in single storms.

Brookhaven Labs in Upton is 0 degrees.

Checking the Davis Weatherlink map, the difference in temperatures at both the immediate south and north shore and the middle of the island is about 10-15 degrees. Both shores are about 15-20 degrees while away from the water is generally 0-10 degrees. No wind and snow pack and you have some variety in temperatures.

9 degrees here this morning, 21 in the city. Heat island in full affect.

This may have been mentioned but it appears the pattern change to mild weather may be delayed, looking at the GFS and Euro thermodynamics.

I have my doubts about some of these snow reports. Someone from my town (Levittown, Nassau County) reported to the NWS we got 19.2 inches. I did a quick check last night about 7 and came up with 12-13 inches. Maybe I lost a little to wind or compacting by then but 19 seems to extreme. The town next to me reported 14.9 and that was by a NWS employee. That is probably about what I got. Can anyone just go out and measure and report it to the NWS? I think most people do the best they can at measuring but this storm was especially hard with all the wind.

Just came in from snow blowing, thankful the snow is light because it is deep. Temperatures brutal numerous layers of clothes.

Funny how Nassau never officially went under a blizzard warning this time. This was probably as bad as or worse than all the blizzard warnings we have been put under in previous storms.

Still snowing at a good clip but the flakes are smaller. My snow total is now-- a lot.
