  1. For most near the coast Sandy was definitely higher. Given the tree damage where I am though we must’ve had gusts into the 70s today.
  2. Massive tree damage in my neighborhood. One big tree fell on a house and several other large ones down or substantially damaged. Traffic lights on Jericho Turnpike mostly out.
  3. On tracks like these, dry air and shear get to them very quickly. You saw how fast the sun came out this afternoon-all the moisture in the storm was pushed out ahead of it. I will say it definitely would’ve been worse if it had 12 more hours over water near NC. It definitely was organizing at the end and couldve made it to Cat 2.
  4. There’s never much rain on the east side of these at this latitude. You have to be lucky with whatever feeder bands there are.
  5. I think even Fay had more rain here. The feeder band was spotty in this area and obviously any steady rain was west of the city.
  6. Other than the hurricane force gust at FRG and the LBI gust, what other hurricane force gusts have there been in this area? The winds definitely did verify if not the craziness the Euro/UKMET had.
  7. After the big Huntington to Hauppauge T-storm last summer PSEG came and cleared branches from near power lines in my neighborhood (I lost power for 3 days from that), and maybe the effect of old/weak trees being cleared from prior storms helped. Not out of the woods yet though. From what I hear there’s plenty of trees down in my area. Haven’t been out to check yet.
  8. Wind should pick back up again-maybe 40-50mph from the west when the storm passes. So far miraculously I have power.
  9. This is quite intense down here on LI. FRG is a few miles from me. I somehow still have power but trees are shaking pretty good. Lots of big branches down.
  10. Just had a gust probably 50-55mph, trees swayed pretty good. Also torrential rain but radar looks lighter.
  11. Called that 2 days ago. The east side of these is never a good place for high rain amounts. You have to be lucky and be under a feeder band for a while. West of track is always where the heavy rain is. That said wind is definitely picking up here with a shower that just came through. I hear sirens in the distance too.
  12. Winds getting stronger now. I’m in a bit of a sheltered location. I’m sure on the south shore it’s getting significantly worse
  13. The main impact from any tornadoes would be from the main feeder band that’s over central NJ now.
  14. Heavy rain axis looks about where it was expected, maybe even a bit East. There should be some 3-4” amounts in the western half of NJ too. I would rather have taken that then the high winds and tornado threat here on the right side. Still not much wind here but models have it picking up pretty quickly as the major feeder band comes in.
  15. That area is what seems to bring the really strong winds in and then for a few hours behind that. Right now outside it’s very still-barely any breeze.
