  1. The rest of the month looks active, but kinda crappy. Next weekend looks cold.
  2. 1.6" is my total. That boosts my season total to 31.0". The snow is already melting.
  3. I went out to eat for lunch. The restaurant was less busy than it typically would be at noon on Saturday.
  4. I'm up to 1.4"... a nice surprise. There is more snow moving in from central Iowa, but it will have more trouble accumulating because of the midday sun and warmer temperature.
  5. My season snow total just hit 30".
  6. I am seeing solid light snow. It is accumulating well on the grass. I need 0.6" to reach 30" for the season. I've been stuck at 29.4" for a month.
  7. Winter got out ahead of the rush and canceled its season a few months ago.
  8. The 12z Euro is north and stronger with the weekend snow system. The UK looks similar.
  9. 0.81" of rain in my yard. I was looking forward to the first solid rain event since December, but so much of this rain was so light that it was barely noticeable from inside. It took about twenty hours to get 0.81". I'd like to skip forward a month or two when heavy rates, with lightning/thunder, are much more common.
  10. I am nearing a half inch as well. Most of the rain is very light. I don't think we'll make an inch here. I heard a little rumble just before 3am, but that's it. We will probably have to wait until April for any real thunderstorm activity.
  11. Cedar Rapids also made it to 70º.
  12. The storm just off the east coast today is expected to drop from the 990s to the 960s in only twelve hours.
  13. We reached 59º yesterday, as models suggested. However, the two previous days, and also today, we've been several degrees short of the expected high. It had looked like we were done with 30s, but today we're stuck at only 34º.
  14. I like to see people try to forecast winter, but the skill just isn't there. You may as well flip a coin, but err on the warm side.
  15. A couple robins also showed up here today. The last of the January glacier is finally melting off of the lawn. That glacier was pretty resilient. Because the January snowfall was glazed in ice, which make measuring future snow very easy, I left my snow boards deep under the snow. They are just now emerging.
  16. Their March temperature outlook is mild and great. However, their 3-month outlook has the upper midwest at only average, which means they think April/May will be cold. I'd rather have a cold March and mild late spring.
  17. Today was better than yesterday, but we still under-performed by a fair amount, only reaching about 44º.
  18. Only 1.7" fell in my yard this month. That single snowfall, on Feb 12, was the only measurable snow in the entire month.
  19. The Euro has trended much farther south with the midweek system. All the heavy rain has been moved to the Tennessee Valley/deep South.
  20. I try to be as accurate as possible. Often, I wait 8 or more hours to clear my snow board because I don't want to feel like I'm just trying to win a spotter competition. When there is wind and the snow is drifting, I often end up measuring less than surrounding spotters.
  21. It appears a progressive northern stream will keep much, if not all, of the active weather and precip south and east of the upper midwest over the next couple weeks. The only thing to look forward to is a mild weekend.
