  1. Nice I’m there right now, my 24th summer life guarding at jones beach. Today wasn’t nearly as nice a beach day as expected. Definitely some smoke in the air here when the sea breeze kicked in.
  2. Kfok down to 39, pretty amazing for June 8th. I have a feeling the lack of solar insulation yesterday and lower day time temps led to a cold launch pad. This is what you would expect in a nuclear winter
  3. Another run of the mill ground wetter here in lynbrook. I was out in Amityville earlier and there were enormous puddles everywhere so they definitely had a good soaker.
  4. Just saw a video from lindenhurst of heavy quarter size hail. Very solid by Long Island standards where’s blue wave
  5. Decent little storm on the uws, couple of good bolts and some brief heavy rain. At this point any rain is welcome
  6. I don’t think these maps are really useful for the general public interested in gardening. In the last few days soil moisture has dropped so low that even my gardens on campus that contain super hardy native plants are needing to be irrigated. We keep having flash droughts as part of our new climate regime. Feast or famine just like with snow
  7. Yeah that was very impressive. It also was during the summer heat so it just tagged on to our normal ozone issues. At least this ones coming from what is normally one of our best airmass generation areas so it’s all just natural wood smoke.
  8. It’s actually very densely forested. Very similar forest type to that of Maine. Another summer drought is the last thing I want. As we head into maximum solar insulation things get dry very quick.
  9. That’s definitely the number one overdue for the big one spot in the US. They used to get a major every few years back in the 20-40s.
  10. Pressure gradients… I have no idea how to respond to this as it would take 100,000 words. Let’s just say, I know your not serious. Pretty much perfect weather currently on the Ivy League uws.
  11. Just drove from work on the uws to my dads in wantagh, tons and tons of flooding everywhere.
  12. It’s still raining deceptively hard compared to the radar presentation. Low level moisture, like pouring drizzle.
  13. Pouring sheet drizzle on the uws currently. Flower peddles clogging all the drains on campus.
  14. Looks like this ends up being far from a bust, this final slug is producing close to an inch on its own. Lots of flooding driving from the island to the city
  15. It actually is a good thing to start the growing season nice and wet after that super dry hot start.
  16. Another rain strike out. I had to turn the Irriagtion system on on campus and begin watering non irrigated planters. Hopefully not a sign of things to come.
  17. Exactly, honestly you would have the best chance on the west slopes of the greens on top of one of the ski resorts. This way if there is valley fog/clouds your above the inversion. If there is a storm on the east coast then obviously all bets are off. I would stay mobile
  18. Western NY is a tuff place for clouds. I would try to find an area that downslopes on a westerly flow.
  19. Nice. 0.0 here on the island and .02” at the park. I really hope this isn’t the start of another warm season drought for the island.
  20. We had that once when I was growing up in south wantagh. The high school is up by the southern state. Rain in south wantagh sleet/snow a few miles north. Meanwhile it’s hot as hell working outside on the uws currently
  21. Regular composted top soil. Most areas will have there own local brand for a couple bucks a bag. Don’t waste your money on any specialty crap.
  22. Drove straight through the southern greens on the way home today, and the amount of snow between Stratton and mt. Snow in the highest elevations was incredible. Banks on the sides of the rode were over roof hight. Somewhere in that area had to have had 50”+ during the big storm. Mitch land for the win. Whole other world, down here.
  23. 1.5” snow sleet mix. Had some lightning and extremely loud thunder over night with a heavy sleet shower.
  24. Basically full on white out at Stratton currently. SN++++ check the cams if your doubtful. 2” in 30 min
  25. Light snow has finally begun at Stratton SVT. Still have a 2’ glacier at my house. Still no cable or internet after the top of a white pine landed on the roof.
