  1. Champaign is currently running 4.1 degrees above normal for December, and will add on that by months end. For the entire calendar year Champaign will finish with 18.1” of snowfall. The snowiest month of 2018 will be April.
  2. 49 degrees on Christmas. No snow in the forecast the next 7 days neither. This will significantly hamper the grade of this winter for me personally, to have literally no snow on the ground for thanksgiving, Christmas or New Years, and hardly any in between.
  3. Boring December weather wise, nothing in the forecast to close out the month. But on the other hand, My son is bouncing off the walls for Christmas, he’s 3, so it’s the first year he’s been truly excited and it’s a nostalgic feeling. And daddy treated himself to a brand new 65” 4K TV just in time for the bears playoff game! Merry Christmas everyone. And here’s to a central Illinois big dog in January or February. Lord knows we are due. God bless.
  4. It has been downright boring for 3 weeks now. I knew this fast start to winter back in November was alarming. Give me a storm please.
  5. Was literally thinking this exact thought a few days ago. Very cold November, followed by a mild December. Although this December is already off to a much better start than 2014. December 2014 we tied for the least snowiest December with just a T recorded. Im just tired of the 1-2” snowfalls. I want a good 6-10” storm, it’s been I believe since the winter of 2013-2014 we had such storm. This december has been extremely foggy.
  6. I love the feel of our sub. It’s a tight knit community with lots of great analysis. I love that the sub isn’t drowning in nonsense posting. Every morning I grab my coffee, and instantly jump on to read what everyone is saying. I’ve learned so much from my time here, and I’m grateful for you guys. As as far as the Midwest being boring, I totally disagree with you. Sure a lot of us are flat with cornfields, but we have some of the most dramatic weather across the country. 100’s in the summer during a boiling heatwave to negative teens during an arctic outbreak. Severe weather outbreaks in the spring, to monster blizzards in the winter.
  7. With the fresh 1” snowfall yesterday, temperatures plunged last night all the way down to 8 degrees. Had horrendous freezing fog this morning, but man did it setup for a beautiful morning! Trees plastered with snow, and extra frosty. Looks really cool. Storm next week looks warm. Really hope this winter doesn’t blow its load by the second week of January and poof it’s gone.
  8. Mayetta, KS getting raked right now. Visibility less than 1/4 mile, and winds gusting over 50mph. Nice fronto band ahead of the main event. I’m drooling you guys. Hope my big dog will come at some point this year.
  9. Enjoy your storm cyclone. Better put your amazing photography skills to use too. Have fun I’m super jealous. 50 and rain here with some back end flurries in the morning.
  10. It has been an absurdly cold November. We still have parking lot piles from the last 2 snow events that have failed to melt simply because the temperature has barely been above 32. Beautiful turkey day weather on tap, 52 and sunny. And yes go bears! Feels good to be first in our division after so many years of Aaron Rodgers and the packers dominating!
  11. My dad and I frequently talk about this tornado outbreak and the winter that followed. It literally seemed like Mother Nature slammed us with a historic tornado outbreak, and then immediately delivered a knockout blow with relentless cold, snow, and as you mentioned snow depth. We had a blizzard that year (Polar Vortex Blizzard) we had thunder snow from a separate event, we had wind chills readings places hadn’t seen since the 80s, snow depth that literally felt like we didn’t see bare ground from December to March. I will never ever forget the brutal winter of 2013-2014.
  12. You know it’s been an extremely cold November, when you’ve had snow on the ground for 5 straight days now.
  13. Either we are in for another historic winter, or a severely front loaded winter.
  14. Was just scrolling through Twitter and Judah Cohen tweeted out that CFS has been consistent in its most recent forecast for the rest of November, December, January to feature a classic El Niño +PNA ridge in west, trough in east.
  15. Jacksonville with a nice 6” lollipop. Lesser amounts my way, I measured 2.5”. Fun event. We actually started as sleet around 10PM last night. Roads are slicker than snot.
  16. The developing storm looks great on water vapor, with a nice moisture plume. Snow has started in southern Illinois, slowly creeping its way northward. Already down to 27 here, should yield some nice fluff tomorrow.
  17. FWIW for months CFS has been advertising a torch for December, last few runs have definitely trended much colder. Something to keep an eye on.
  18. WWA hoisted for my area. Just to my south WSW have also been hoisted. Nice event unfolding.
  19. Really liking the trends today. Should be a fun little event unfolding tomorrow night. Going to aim high and make a fall CMI gets 4”. Best part is I’m off work Thursday too.
  20. Is anyone else concerned about the fast start to winter? Even the legendary winter of 2013-2014 didn’t start until the first week of December.
  21. Under clear skies, temps were able to drop to a bitter 17 degrees, breaking the old record of 19 set back in 1933. Factor in the windchill it feels like 4 degrees outside, a shock to the system for sure.
  22. Your gonna have over half of some of our SEASONAL snowfall totals before thanksgiving lol. Good stuff man. It has to be very peaceful up there. Snow sticking to cars and grass here, but the roads remain wet as temps are hovering right around 33 degrees. Still nonetheless, nice little event for so early in the season.
  23. Still adjusting to this daylight savings , and getting dark at 5PM. Wintry few days on tap, excited to see the first flakes flying. Its going to be a chilly night, already down to 37.
  24. Euro on board as well about sending some possibly record breaking cold into the heart of the country by next weekend.
