  1. Speaking of GEFS good lord it was mighty cold towards the end of the week for the central part of the nation.
  2. Judging from our climo and our luck, this will be the most favorable storm track all winter the pattern has been interesting to me lately, especially with that blob off the pac coast, and the La Niña like behavior.
  3. Indeed, the very first thing that came to mind lol. Almost time to bust that gem of a movie out. You’re gonna regret saying that awesome house though. It’s on my bucket list to experience an epic lake effect event. I get hyped from a 6-8” storm, couldn’t imagine 3-5’ lol.
  4. #1 The great blizzard of 2007. 2/13/07 was a truly remarkable event, and I remember my father telling me at the time, cherish this blizzard, we don’t get these very often and boy was he right. Champaign county recorded anyway from 12-16” of snow, with winds absolutely howling 30-40mph. I happen to be a senior on high school that year, and our school was in a very rural area, and was closed for 3 straight days. The FRIGID airmass that followed this storm was insane. February 07 was a really really cold month. #2 Polar Vortex Blizzard. 1/5/14 is a another date I will never forget. The epic cold forecasted to hammer down was remarkable, and boy did it deliver. Snow began early on 1/5/14 and by afternoon/early evening temperatures were starting to plunge, with heavy snow falling at 17 degrees. By late evening anywhere from 8-12” had fallen and the snow so light and fluffy in nature was creating havoc on the roadways. Winds were gusting at 45mph, interstates were shutting down, road salt stopped working as temperatures plunged deep into the negatives. 1/16/14 woke up to a temperature of -16 with a windchill of -45. One of the most brutal things I’ve ever felt. 2013-2014 was an epic winter, and one I can’t wait to tell the grandkids about someday. #3. GHDI. The talks of a historic blizzard unfolding 7 days prior was amazing, and the model agreement was undeniable. Giddiness, excitement, and adrenaline was flowing through my body, and ultimately because of this storm I found this forum! I had never seen 18-24” forecasted for my general area 72 hours before an event ever in my life, at one point some models were showing ORD getting 36”. For 3 straight days I lived off coffee, minimal sleep, my eyes being burned out of my head from staring at the screen, and reading so much analysis from you folks, I couldn’t sleep. While it became a pretty epic fail for my area, this storm was amazing, and the feeling it gave me was like being a little kid. 2010-2011 was a really fun winter.
  5. Really raw day to open November, but I actually love these type of days. 43 degrees, steady rain, breezy. The wind from the weekend really stripped some trees.
  6. Shes a beaut Clark. Looks like you will have plenty of room for us to come crash your house when we are itching for snow, and your buried in 3’ of the white goodness.
  7. Yeah getting 12”+ is a big deal especially in central Illinois, Indiana, Ohio. Our last 12” snowfall occurred 3/25/13 although the PVB came darn close. Other than that 2/13/07 was about as textbook as you’re going to get around these parts. Welcome to the Midwest btw.
  8. Brrrr we dropped down to 22 this morning. I just read a tweet that Anchorage, AK has broken 14 record highs since September 1st, holy cow.
  9. Right? Lol. Pretty pathetic. If you really want to see a gas station literally get shredded, YouTube “Hurricane Charley intense eyeball winds” one of the most impressive videos I’ve ever seen.
  10. Family friend lives in southern Illinois and sent this picture of some pilot gas station damage earlier.
  11. 59mph gust reported at Willard airport in Champaign per the 2PM obs. Tons of power outages across the area as well.
  12. Talk about a month of extremes here locally, on 10/3 we had a high of 90, fast forward to 10/16 we recorded a low of 25. Nice 65 degree spread. These transition months are always fascinating to me.
  13. Not complaining what so ever, but man my forecast for the next 7-9 days looks zzz. Upper 50’s and tons of sunshine in the forecast.
  14. Dropped to 26 this morning. First hard freeze in the books. It was a very chilly morning.
  15. I spoke to soon. We indeed did have a freeze this morning, temps had warmed to 34 an hour before sunrise, and then dropped to 31 right before. Nice frost here as well.
  16. Narrowly avoided a freeze, 33 degrees this morning. Could see your breathe out there this morning.
  17. Temps are really crashing under these clear skies, already down to 45.
  18. I’m ready for cooler weather, but the first snowflakes might be a little early lol. Although, I do remember sometime in the 3rd week of October 2013 we had flakes flying in the air. Really looking back 2013 was just an incredible weather year. So many extreme events.
  19. Really hoping this blast of fall air can accelerate the fall foliage around here, everything is still pretty green. NAM had tried to illustrate the possibility of our first snowflakes tomorrow. Lol. Either way frost warning tonight, we are getting closer folks.
  20. From the local news last night. This was a cell that blew up near Fisher, about 18 miles NW of Champaign. No damage reported.
  21. 88 here. The record of 93 set back in 2007 will obviously be safe. After Wednesday I’m hoping to be done with the heat for the rest of the year. I have 30s in my forecast
  22. Storms finally blew through the area, dropping much needed rain, and temps respectively. Before the storms we peaked at 88. It was hot.
  23. Even in October Champaign getting 89’d, ‘‘ ‘tis has been the theme of 2018. But similar to cyclone, our record was going to be safe anyway, 93 from 1954. That Atlanta October stat just blew my mind. That is really bizarre. Wonder what stops then from hitting 90 in October so much?
  24. What makes them determine that just New Mexico and Colorado are the only two states to experience “Near Normal”
