“Closest” TOR today might be over Ware. Very broad but worth watching
-
Even a tiny hook with it

Maybe a little spin up of some kind down near Ansonia, tight persistent couplet and hook, but small, you almost need the super-res radar to see it...

Wow interesting looking
-
I heard the crash before the flash even went away
-
Holy ****...walked in my house, saw a huge flash though the curtains and then a major crash. Something got hit. That scared the crap out of me
-
Ahhh finally the strike showed up on RadarScope. Something hit not all too far from here.

There’s this one stupid tree at the golf course I wish would come down. Blocks a great view
-
CG’s within the past few minutes from the SW
-
And one strengthening to the southwest!!! It’s like watching Miley Cyrus to the north and Taylor Swift is to the southwest!!!

North of HFD actually has a decent shot at severe. Tall updraft, nice bowing shape, lightning activity increasing rapidly.
Cloud features suggest this is close to severe. Well defined gust front. Wish I could directly load a pic here but it’s too big
-
Looks like a really nice lowering with this and a nice gust front!

I was thinking the same thing, could hear almost non stop thunder to my north. We get the warning and not one rumble of thunder so far. We are now raining at 4.00" per hour according to the davis. This after we had 0.94" yesterday....
The rains gotta be quite intense with these. Yesterday was pretty insane
-
Inflow winds are pretty gusty
-
Made it to the golf course in WeHa.

I'm impressed by the huge area of > 50 kts effective shear.
yeah that as well is aiding in storms acquiring weak rotation. >50 knots of effective shear with the degree of CAPE is quite impressive.

Kinda shocked the cell that gets the warning has no lightning in it while the one near New Milford with lightning and what looks like a bit stronger winds on velocity doesn't
-
debating on starting work or seeing if that storm near Woodbury Center will make a run for WeHa and then I can go to the golf course

Although there's bulk shear, SR helicity is meager or lacking entirely. Not a good day for anything really interesting.
helicity is a bit higher I think than what is being displayed. Diffuse boundary is enhancing some rotation within the storms (especially west) but there really isn't a whole much to cause any concern. Probably just enhance potential for strong gusts.

Yup. not much forcing but plenty of CAPE and deep layer shear.
Too bad we didn’t have the forcing or lapse rates today
-
Think we could see a few strong or severe storms today

That cell is looking good now. Trees and utility poles down in Ridgefield per Twitter.
I was getting nervous driving through Ridgefield...went through an area of narrow Roads with nothing but trees and power lines. Lots of ponding too. I wonder where in Ridgefield
-
Just got into Reading. Had to pull over...can’t see and there’s ponding. Made it so close to the rotation
-
Getting a few good CG’s now
-
On that cell headed to Ridgefield. Looks like the weak rotation may pass just south though

the CG's on the backside are the worst b/c they're typically +CG strikes (I believe) which are the most dangerous. But that's exactly what happened here. I'm still freaked out.
I parked my car on the street in front of my house and as I get out I hear thunder off to the west-southwest and I wondered if something else popped. I checked the radar and saw it was (guess anyways) from a cell over Middletown. I debated on taking up the trash can but figured I'd do it later since I have to go back outside.
I walk into my house and as soon as I close the door I saw an incredibly bright flash which lasted a couple seconds and instantly heard the crash. The house shook. I sort of peered out windows to see if I could notice anything hit but didn't see anything. I tried going outside a few times but as soon as I stepped foot outside I ran back in. After I'm done working I'll take a walk around.
