I have an interesting question about prediction. Does the NWS WPC provide any QPF map for Hawaii at any time? Now that the event is half-over (or something like that,) and the floods have already occurred, I am wondering if there is any way to get a model QPF for Hawaii other than GFS/ other global models?

I have that same exact question and I have been able to find nothing. In fact, I have had trouble finding sources to view model data for Hawaii. Tropical Tidbits was probably the best site because you could get pretty close on HI but the products are very limited. I had juse been using the MAG page from NOAA and clicking the HI sector and using the few models available to look at projected rainfall totals.

Now that is not very good. It’s drinkable in a pinch

It’s delicious. Strong and not something you chug. I’ll go with anything Two Roads though. Also a big fan of Sea Hag...Fat Tire is delicious too.

I picture you as a 40oz Steel Reserve type guy.

I love the 40’s of Steel Reserve and now they’re 42oz!!!

    Lol

  3. Not necessarily myself but a few people I'm associated with who are worlds better at computer programming (and have the brain for it unlike me) have dabbled in linux and other ways to extract model data and generate graphics and such.  I know there are these links:

    https://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/data-access/model-data/model-datasets/global-forcast-system-gfs

    http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/products/gfs/

Does anyone know any other sources where you can grab model data (more specifically for the GFS) and easily choose which parameters and data you specifically want?

Haven’t even looked. I’ll take a peak soon.

Cool! I really need to like learn tropical forecasting and gain confidence in that very quickly.

You’ve been full of random questions lately. But yes, James, high winds are possible bringing down coconuts and pineapples...adjust your tropical fruit purchases.
