  1. It was simply near a RR crossing. Pulled into a volunteer FD right next to it. Hopped out of the car and snapped a few pics near the tracks. Here it is on Google Maps: The other one was from the church parking lot in this Google image:
  2. Just got home from CLT. Went north on 16. Nothing on ground until construction zone began. Then nothing in Conover either. Got home and still a good half inch here. Based on my wife's description, I think we had an inch several hours ago before the heaviest stuff ended. Sent from my moto e5 supra using Tapatalk
  3. Nice! My wife reporting around 0.5-1.0 inch in Viewmont. Posted a few pics in the foothills thread. Sent from my moto e5 supra using Tapatalk
  4. Snow pics from back home in NE Hickory courtesy of my wife. Now, I'm in Charlotte with an ugly 38 and rain... Sent from my moto e5 supra using Tapatalk
  5. Snow pics from in and around Bostic, NC. Great spot for snowfall this morning,@strongwxnc. Sent from my moto e5 supra using Tapatalk
  6. Training got canceled early. In Forest City. Now have some time to kill. Maybe head back up 64 toward South Mts. Or maybe head east toward Gastonia. Higher radar returns are that way. Sent from my moto e5 supra using Tapatalk
  7. Beautiful heavy snow at Isothermal CC. There for training right now. Sent from my moto e5 supra using Tapatalk
  8. BullCity (AKA QueenCity), I'm pretty confident this has been your only decade since 2010, so I don't think anyone can argue with your statement. [emoji16] Sent from my moto e5 supra using Tapatalk
  9. Beautiful pics, Buckethead. Thanks for sharing. I'm quite jealous. Saw a few flurries today at the intersection of I-40 and I-26, but that's the extent of my my winter weather observations so far for this winter.
  10. At least someone's getting the snowstorm of a lifetime... Newfoundland asks for military help
  11. There remains lots of potential in the next several weeks. The 06Z GFS has cool to seasonal temperatures in NC for the entirety of its run following Friday. There is also lots of opportunities for precipitations. The trick is matching the two together. I like our chances.
  12. Crazy little storm cell on the extreme NW of this rainfall passed right over my house this morning around 4:30 AM. Five brilliant strikes of lightning, each rolled by rumbles of thunder so loud that the house shook. Then, the rain. 0.51 inch in ten minutes! It seemed tropical in it's intensity. Then it was all over. No more rain for us overnight as the axis of precipitation seems oriented in a training fashion from SW to NE just to our south. Sent from my moto e5 supra using Tapatalk
  13. Ice fog?! Fortunately, it's only "patchy". Can you drive through a fog of ice? Does it hurt to walk into it? Is it penetrable? Just. Crazy. Cold. Amazing. Edit: I just checked their forecast on NWS too. It adds the phrase, "Sunny". Can you actually use that phrase when there are less than 5 hours of "daytime" and the sun will be very low on the horizon? The ice fog may actually obscure it. Edit 2: Reading their AFD is just unreal. Check this out: "For the Fairbanks areas, near power plants, some industrial flurries may occur as the atmosphere wrings out the moisture in the power plant plumes." Industrial flurries! I don't think you should make snow cream with that snow.
  14. Unfortunately, GSP radar is down: 000 NOUS62 KGSP 041108 FTMGSP MESSAGE DATE: JAN 04 2020 11:20:03 KGSP RADAR IS DOWN DUE TO PEDESTAL ERRORS. RETURN TO SERVICE TIME IS UNKNOWN. PL EASE USE NEIGHBORING KFFC, KMRX, KFCX, KCAE, AND TCLT RADARS UNTIL SERVICE CAN B E RESTORED.
  15. Beautiful pic,@bess. Unfortunately, it was pretty much a non-event here in Hickory. Not even a glistening when I looked out at the trees this morning. Temp rose overnight like@jburns was observing to my east. Sent from my moto e5 supra using Tapatalk
  16. There is no game at this point. No one is in. There might be a scrimmage next week, but we're not even sure we have enough to field a team. Sent from my moto e5 supra using Tapatalk
  17. That's not good...if we're hoping for some icy weather. Sent from my moto e5 supra using Tapatalk
  18. Did not expect it to get cold so quickly. Usually we're watching every fraction of a degree til it finally nears freezing around daybreak. Not the case tonight. Already below freezing. 31.8/24 right now. Sent from my moto e5 supra using Tapatalk
  19. Dewpoints are in low to mid 20s at precipitation onset in the latest 00Z NAM. The 3K version prints out total ZR accumulations at about half that of the 12K version, but that is still rather significant when looking at two tenths or greater.
  20. Yeah, here are the ZR totals from Pivotal Weather:
  21. 850s are only cold enough for snow for the initial onset of precipitation in NC. However, the lower-level cold air hangs on for a long time. Lots of sleet and freezing rain on this setup.
  22. Well, what have we here? Usual caveats and all, but it's fun to look at.
  23. Bit of an over-performer today in the rainmaker department. Yesterday, my P&C forecast was for less than a tenth of an inch. This morning, the P&C said between a tenth and a quarter of an inch. As of 9:20 AM, I sit at 0.53 inch in the rain gauge. Maybe a sign of things to come for winter? Regular over-performers? One can hope...
