  1. Weather has been pretty quiet up here, relatively speaking. Mostly wind and some cold temps. Low this morning was 2 degrees after off and on snow-squally weather yesterday and last night. Have had 8-10" of snow over the past week, mostly in 1-3" increments. Went on an early morning snowshoe today, snow stake in the back measuring 3' of snow... snow water equiv must be around 7".
  2. Almost dying in 5' of snow during a blizzard seems to have really taken the passion out of your hobby. I rode through that area this fall and stopped to think how scary I'm sure that was and how alone that must have felt being so far from anyone or anything. It would have changed me I think. There's been plenty of snow up here for riding for a while now.
  3. There's been a lot actually the past several years, although my little corner here has not been under 200" a season since I've lived here. One or two years it was close and the depth only peaked around 30" one year, think it was 2016-17.
  4. Less than 100" by January first is just average.
  5. Last winter was the deepest snow I had ever seen imby. 60 plus inches in late feb. At that depth, it's pretty much impossible to measure, just feel encapsulated by it a little bit. I still have high hopes for this winter.
  6. 65" of snow in the next 10 days... Better gas up the blower...lol
  7. East snow belts sure have been cashing in lately. Later today into tonight when winds go more N/NNW, it should begin to snow heavier again here. Meanwhile, overnight it cleared and with around 10" on the ground, the temp has fallen to 8 and probably no higher than 15 for a high today. Hard to believe Halloween was 12 days ago.
  8. Leaves have peaked, season's first snow is in the forecast, will certainly pale in comparison to west of here in the N plains, nonetheless, winter is very close to setting in here in Michigan's north woods.
  9. I felt the same way. Jonger used one of his nine lives.
  10. Jonger, wow! WTF were you thinking even being out? I didn't feel safe walking to the end of my driveway the other night! It's too deep to ride... heck it's too deep to even snowshoe. Two people have died within 5-10 miles of my house since I've been here as a result of getting lost or stuck and then freezing to death. One of the guys was up by Eagle, too. The remoteness and inaccessibility of this area, especially in the winter is nothing to take so lightly. This a wilderness, you know that! June last year, I was at a friends camp near the Silver Lake Basin (probably not far from where you were stranded as the crow flies) on a beautiful, sunny 65 degree day, wearing only short sleeves and decided to take a little hike alone. 30 minutes in, clouds and a north wind moved in. 10 minutes later it was 34, foggy, misting, wind was blowing. I got cold, panicked, got turned around, no cell service. I was shivering and shaking, and I too, for brief moments thought I could die. The regret that just poured through me was awful. To die from making such an innocent, stupid mistake. I never want to feel that again. If not for my wonderful better-half and the other guys at camp laying on their truck horns, it may have ended differently for me. One of the best lessons I have learned living here- respect what can kill you. Glad you are okay. Good God!
